Double Drabble: Ideally Suited

Summary: Ianto has a special delivery to make.

A/N: Double drabble.




The airlock opened and Ianto stepped out onto the underground dock, where Torchwood’s submersibles were moored. There were two of them; a small submarine that was used when it was necessary to venture out into the deeper water beyond Cardiff Bay, and a much smaller one that could carry three if absolutely necessary but was more suited for use by a maximum of two. This was the vehicle that got the most use, mainly for retrieving items the Rift dropped in the bay.


Opening the top hatch, Ianto climbed inside, making sure everything was closed tight behind him. He’d have enough air for ten hours, although he didn’t expect his mission to take more than two. Starting the motor, he guided the sub through the underwater tunnel, out into the bay.


Gloria the alien squid was waiting for him.


“Good day, Gloria. How are you?”


“I am very well, Ianto,” Gloria replied through her translator. “I have a fine crop of oysters, and the scallops are coming along nicely.”


“Excellent. I have the eels you requested. May I ask what they’re for?”


“I intend to train them to guard my crops.”


“That should keep anyone from stealing your lobsters!”


“Indeed.”

How well Ianto gets on with the protected aliens. He helps and respects them, they in turn appreciate his courtesy and humanity. Makes life much more agreeable for everyone

Yes indeed. It doesn't hurt that he genuinely likes Gloria, enjoys visiting with her, and sees her as a person rather than an alien creature.
