Double Drabble: A Sharp Pinch
Nov. 23rd, 2021 05:12 pmTitle: A Sharp Pinch
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Martha, Ianto, Owen.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 684: Sharp at
tw100.
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: It’s time for the team’s flu vaccinations.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
“Now, just relax; you’ll feel a sharp pinch,” Martha said as she readied her needle.
Ianto could have laughed out loud. As if a tiny little injection was going to bother someone who’d been at the mercy of Owen Harper’s lack of a bedside manner more times than he could remember! Laughing would most likely have made his arm jerk, which would obviously be unhelpful, so he kept his amusement under wraps.
“All done.”
“What?” Ianto turned to look at Martha, confused. Then he looked at his arm, where a tiny pinprick was barely visible. “I didn’t feel a thing! Whenever Owen does the flu jabs, it feels like he’s drilling for oil!”
Martha laughed. “Surely he can’t be that bad!”
“You have no idea. I think he does it on purpose; you know he prefers his patients to be beyond caring what he inflicts on them. Just take my advice; have Tom do your jab.”
Later, Ianto saw Martha rubbing her arm.
“Oh, please tell me you didn’t!”
“I couldn’t believe anyone could be that bad at giving vaccinations.” Martha gave a rueful smile. “You were right though.”
“I suspect he deliberately blunts his needles to inflict maximum discomfort.”

Date: 2021-11-26 11:18 am (UTC)Yeah. I can picture Owen having a rant to a corpse. As weird as that may sound. It's Jack, that he'd have to worry about...
Poor Martha though. Owen is suppose to distract her from the pain. Not make it worse.*sighs*

Date: 2021-11-26 12:24 pm (UTC)Owen is nor your traditional kind and gentle doctor. If it hurts, tough.
no subject
Date: 2021-11-27 11:31 am (UTC)Gives talking to dead people a whole other meaning.
Yeah. Owen has a different medical degree to Martha, and it shows. Martha would be the type to give a child a jelly baby or something. Do they still do that?*shrugs*

Date: 2021-11-27 11:57 pm (UTC)I don't think so. Too many kids have weight issues, they wouldn't want to encourage the eating of sweets.

Date: 2021-11-30 10:31 am (UTC)Martha clone: My heart. It's getting slower.
Martha: There's nothing I can do.
Martha clone: In your mind, you've got so many plans. There's so much that you want to do.
And I bet those plans consist of helping people.:)
I heard these days that Doctors sometimes give out balloons to kids. Parents and even children themselves are getting more health conscious.

Date: 2021-11-30 11:35 am (UTC)Martha is the kind of person who puts others first. She put her life on the line to save the world.
no subject
Date: 2021-12-02 09:26 am (UTC)I kind of think Martha should have worked as a Paediatrician. But that would be considered too normal in the Whoniverse, I guess.*deadpan*
no subject
Date: 2021-12-02 01:44 pm (UTC)Tom was a paediatrician. Martha could have done anything.
no subject
Date: 2021-12-15 10:20 am (UTC)Jack brought the team together because of their own personal hardships. Besides Gwen that is.
MARTHA: Never mind the universe, I've got a great big world of my own now.
Yeah. I almost forgot about Tom's profession.

Date: 2021-12-18 10:28 am (UTC)She was supposedly the "Audience Surrogate", like how the Companions are to the Doctor.
Yeah, okay...*unconvinced*

Date: 2021-12-19 06:24 am (UTC)Yeah. Tosh got sidelined big time!
TOSH: Didn't take you long to get your feet under the table.
I said in the past Gwen was Rose 2.0. But maybe she was really Suzie 2.0 minus the "crazy". But still maintaining a short temper. You see what I mean?
Oh, RTD and his ways of characterisation of certain people...*at a lost of better wording*
no subject
Date: 2021-12-19 01:09 pm (UTC)Lack of characterisation, I'd say. The only reason the other team members had good characterisation was because of the actors.
no subject
Date: 2021-12-20 11:18 am (UTC)GWEN: I don't care, all right? I can't put Rhys through this. He's had to put up with enough as it is, okay? So I'm not postponing the wedding.
JACK: You are not thinking straight.
GWEN: Do not bring my bloody hormones into this, Mister Jack Harkness!
Oh yeah, some guilt is sinking in. Still a cheater!
*pause*
I can't get over that. That's one for you, Rhys. *shakes head*
RTD went all out with Suzie as the villain. She resented her father so much as to unplug his life support. Brutal.

Date: 2021-12-20 12:40 pm (UTC)no subject
Date: 2021-12-21 10:22 am (UTC)Yeah. RTD was milking it with the whole Jack/Gwen thing.
DONNA: They had the reception without me.
DOCTOR: Yes, I gathered.
NERYS: Well, it was all paid for. Why not?
DONNA: Thank you, Nerys.
That's one of the excuses Gwen gave. Money over safety.*shrugs*
no subject
Date: 2021-12-21 01:35 pm (UTC)With what Torchwood agents earn, money wasn't something Gwen needed to worry about. She was just being selfish as usual, not caring about anyone but herself. I bet Rhys would have preferred to wait.
no subject
Date: 2021-12-22 07:51 am (UTC)Yeah. That plot was a unnecessary mess! I'm sure RTD thought it was brilliant.*deadpan*
You could argue that directly to Gwen, but she'd just shout at you like she did to Jack when he told her to calm down.*scoffs*
Rhys was very patient. But he also stood up for himself.
no subject
Date: 2021-12-22 12:21 pm (UTC)Rhys was the best thing about the whole Gwen story, but she didn't appreciate him, she belittled him to others, she cheated on him, she didn't bother listening to him when he was talking to her.. He should have dumped her and found someone who would treat him better.
no subject
Date: 2021-12-25 08:28 am (UTC)RTD said he related more to the companion. But sometimes, I think its abit of both.
Rhys weakness was his attraction to Gwen. This type of thing happens in real life. So I can't argue with that.*indifference*
He was a great addition to Torchwood, without being an actual member. Once he was in the loop. He was the only part of Miracle Day that was normal. Sorry, Jack.

Date: 2021-12-26 11:22 am (UTC)Rhys should of had a spinoff. I don't know what exactly though. :D

Date: 2021-12-26 11:57 am (UTC)no subject
Date: 2021-12-27 08:08 am (UTC)True. But then RTD doesn't like simplicity even if it could have been interesting.
I wonder how "Castle" would have done without Kate Beckett? If it hadn't been cancelled. I would have missed Kate though.
no subject
Date: 2021-12-27 11:50 am (UTC)Castle wouldn't have worked without Kate, I don't think.

Date: 2021-12-28 08:15 am (UTC)JACK: Doctor, it's the Daleks.
GWEN: Oh, he's a bit nice. I thought he'd be older.
IANTO: He's not that young.
This scene says more about Gwen than Ianto.
Yeah. No Lanie either. Imagine Castle dealing with the other Medical Examiner, Sidney Perlmutter? He disliked Castle.
I wish they hadn't had to wrap up the end of the show so abruptly.

Date: 2021-12-28 01:11 pm (UTC)Now I want River to put Gwen in her place... *sigh*
no subject
Date: 2021-12-29 06:33 am (UTC)ESTHER: You've done that before.
GWEN: So many times.
The last one was from Miracle Day. Knocking a man out or flirting? They're pretty much interchangeable in Gwen's book.*deadpan*
River meeting Gwen? That's an interesting idea. Jack and River have at least met in Audio Story.
no subject
Date: 2021-12-29 01:04 pm (UTC)If you want to run with the idea, go ahead.

Date: 2021-12-30 03:51 am (UTC)Tenth Doctor: Just forgive me for this. It could save a thousand lives. It means nothing. Honestly, nothing.
(The Doctor kisses Martha, long and hard, then runs away.)
Martha Jones: That was nothing?
At least the Doctor warned Martha of his intentions.
Jack's reaction to Gwen's kiss should have been like your userpic.
"If you want to run with the idea, go ahead".
Jenny: Love the running.
Maybe I will...*thinking mode on*

Date: 2021-12-31 07:45 am (UTC)Yeah. Gwen should know as a former Police Officer that would be inappropriate!
I didn't even like it, when Madame de Pompadour surprised the Doctor with a kiss. That's the problem with Infatuation. It is not a romantic moment.
no subject
Date: 2021-12-31 05:57 pm (UTC)Infatuation is seldom reciprocated and you just end up embarrassing yourself if you kiss someone like that. I've been on the receiving end a couple of times. Not fun.
no subject
Date: 2022-01-01 08:25 am (UTC)Yes. That's most likely the case. RTD tried to "oversexualised" Gwen without resorting to putting her in skimpy outfits. The latter is something that happens in a lot of other shows.
Yeah. That would not have been pleasant for you. The worse I've had is someone who gives off mixed signals. I don't have time for that nonsense.

Date: 2022-01-01 12:36 pm (UTC)Both times it was completely unexpected, although one very old guy was clearly drunk at the time.

Date: 2022-01-02 10:26 am (UTC)I don't want this to be comparing women. However, I feel like if an actress is heavily-breasted, out "the girls" go. It's that, or make them half-naked. Regardless of the actresses point of view. This was addressed a fair bit in "Charmed" as well.
It could have been in the heat of the moment. Still awkward though. I attract the wrong kind of guys. And the ones I'm attracted to, aren't interested in me. It's like some kind of paradoxical situation.*half-grumbling because I can't articulate*
no subject
Date: 2022-01-02 12:42 pm (UTC)We all attract the wrong kinds of guys a lot of the time. I had plenty of those in my teens and twenties, just the occasional right kind. I think the problem is that the wrong ones outnumber the right ones by about 30 to 1. There aren't enough good ones to go around so some people keep getting stuck with the bad ones.
no subject
Date: 2022-01-03 08:27 am (UTC)Donna Noble: Typical. All the decent men are on the other bus.
30 to 1?!
Well, there's the mystery solved.*sighs*

Date: 2022-01-03 11:57 am (UTC)Just a rough guesstimate from my own experiences.
no subject
Date: 2022-01-04 09:45 am (UTC)Kate Beckett: I was trying to keep him from seeing you and so I pushed too hard and he made me. He called me green, Castle!
I'm glad I don't have to deal with that form of err...negotiation.
I don't hear the word: guesstimate that often.
