A/N: Double drabble.
No one had expected Buffy to sacrifice herself in Dawn’s place, but she’d done it, and now…
Her body lay broken and lifeless on the ground, and they couldn’t just leave her there. Nobody outside of the group could be allowed to find out about Buffy’s death; it would be a disaster. Dawn had already lost her mom, and now she’d lost her sister. What if social services tried to take her away from the people who constituted the only family she had left?
So they’d have to keep up a pretence that Buffy was still alive, which meant there could be no funeral for her, not an official one anyway. Laying her to rest would be down to her friends, but Willow thought that was what Buffy would have wanted, just her nearest and dearest in attendance, no muss no fuss.
They’d dig a grave in a secluded spot and bury her away from prying eyes. It would give them a chance to say their goodbyes, and a place they could go to feel close to her whenever they missed her too much.
Buffy had lived and died a hero, yet the rest of the world would never know.
