Summary: Martha’s life has changed in ways she never would have imagined.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.




Not so long ago, the biggest decision Martha had to deal with was which field of medicine she should specialise in. Paediatrics? She did love kids, but it seemed the sort of thing a woman would be expected to choose. How about surgery? She had good, steady hands and the work would certainly be varied.


That question was the last thing on her mind these days. Her life had taken a turn she would have never imagined, not in her wildest dreams.


Now, the universe and all of time were hers to explore. Where did she want to go next?

I'd imagine Martha could have been a travelling Doctor.

Yes! Absolutely! Martha was a people person. She could easily adapt to all kinds of situations.

As far as I'm concerned, she married Tom. I reject the Martha / Mickey relationship, it was just RTDs way of getting both characters into his last episode.

Yeah, how pathetic is that when he already did one with Martha's first episode? He even gave it that title, so why try to do it again? Just shows his complete lack of imagination.

Yeah. I mean, Martha and Mickey didn't even interact in "Journeys End." It was quite a leap to see them loved up. RTD just had to make Martha engaged to somebody so it looked like she had moved on from The Doctor.

RTD forces things to fit what he wants instead of following what's natural for the characters.

It's a good thing we have fanfic. It doesn't matter if RTD destroys his toys. So to speak.

Most fanfic writers have far better imaginations and more respect for the characters than RTD does.

There's no limit within a writers mind, that can't be put on paper.

Paper, laptop, whatever. At least writing doesn't require a special effects budget, sets, costumes, and actors who expect to be paid.

Yes. That's the advantage.

I think plot points and character development should be top priority to story telling.

And consistency. Character development needs to make sense in terms of what we know about a character and their situation. RTD is inconsistent, he changes things for no reason, and he never had a show 'bible' to keep track of things, which is why he kept contradicting things he'd already established. He didn't care that a lot of what he wrote made no sense.

Generally, RTD hires the right actors, but plot wise. It can get iffy. The "golum and space jesus" bit in "The Last of The Timelords" bit. is one that really sticks out for me*tries not to eyeroll*

Then Moffat came along, and weighed in on whatever RTD did.*shrugs*

RTDs responses to the smallest hint of criticism are usually tone deaf. He's tasteless, tactless, and just not a nice man.

I want to make a fix it for every time RTD ruined things.

He made Martha Jones walk the Earth to spread a message? What?! she couldn't use social media. Wait. The Master would have monitored that. And Martha was the one who could err...actually walk away with the least trauma.

You'd have an awful lot to fix!

The Master probably blocked all forms of communication except for word of mouth. The whole world was under his control. Travelling would have been the only way, and with Jack's Vortex Manipulator Martha was better equipped than anyone else would have been, so I think that at least was right.

Giving Jack Alonso as a consolation prize for losing |Ianto and having top sacrifice his grandson is another matter. 'Here, have another pretty bloke to shag, it'll fix everything'. An apology for not being there when he was needed would have been more appropriate, but he just wanted to give the finger to all the Jack/Ianto fans.

I'm always on the lookout for other fic writers points of view.

At least we knew Martha was physically fit. There could have easily have been a mini-spinoff series of her journey. Plus, she got to laugh in the Masters face after all that!

Yeah. I hate the whole rebound or moving on strategy with a new "love interest" plot. It's like Willow with Kennedy on "Buffy". Even if Willow dumped her later on. Being on your own isn't always a bad thing!

It's why there is so much fanfic. Pissed off fans have to fix things they hate.

Martha was such a strong character, I liked that part of the story because like Donna, she learned what she was capable of was so much more than she'd ever imagined.

Yeah, I don't see why characters have to get new love interests. Buffy moved on pretty fast from Angel too. Kennedy was so pushy, I felt that she didn't respect that Willow was still grieving. There's nothing wrong with being alone.

In the long run, Martha got better character development. I like to think Donna still has all that hidden potential. Even without knowing the Doctor anymore.*bittersweet*

Riley: But she doesn't love me.

I only felt sorry for Riley when Faith had sex with him.*pause* Without his consent!!! If only he had left sooner.*sighs*

Kennedy was young and hormonal as far as I can remember.

I believe writers create love interest's, to past the time in the storyline. Real love should happen organically.

I like to think Donna eventually found her strength again.

Yeah, that was a nasty trick to pull, but typical of Faith at that point. Riley didn't really love Buffy either, otherwise he wouldn't have behaved the way he did, left her, and married someone else.

Some shows get the right balance., Sometimes the relationships are important to the storyline. Other times it's just because the characters are expected to have love interests.

Agatha Christie versus what happens to Donna with a Time Lord mind.

It would have been better had Riley figured out that Faith really wasn't Buffy. Besides going on picnics in daylight, he was kind of clingy. Although it's easy to fall into that trap if you are infactuated with someone.

Domestics or relationships symbolise "realism" in a Sci-Fi world. But its still possible for a single person to have other priorities which matter to them as well. If not more.

Yeah, I just wanted Donna to be safe but aware that she's an awesome woman. The Doctor should have found a way to fix her.

I think Riley was also kind of bossy and demanding.

The same is true in real world settings. Relationships aren't necessarily the most important thing in a character's life.

The Chameleon Arch springs to mind, but that would have probably caused more pain to poor Donna.

Tenth Doctor:...But really, did you think I'd leave my best friend without a defence mechanism?

Angel: Oh, Riley. I don't like him.

Yeah. At first I thought he was just being over protective. That's not going to work on someone like Buffy.*shakes head*

Buffy: It's not like it's the end of the world.
*pauses*
Buffy: Which is too bad, you know, 'cause that, I'm really good at.

A Slayers job doesn't pay the bills. That really sucked.
