A/N: Double drabble.
“Hey, you!” a man yelled. “What the hell’s going on here?”
Dee looked up from examining the murder scene. The victim’s body had already been taken away, but there were still blood stains, and potentially other evidence. He held up his badge.
“NYPD. We’re investigatin’ a murder.”
“Well you’ll have to do it someplace else. You’re in the way here; I need to get to my car.”
“Sorry, no can do; this whole area is a crime scene. Civilians aren’t allowed past the tape.”
“But I have to get home!”
“Then you’ll haveta use public transport tonight. Your car’s evidence, it might have bits of the victim on it; murder can be pretty messy.”
“You’re not going to let me take my car?”
“That’s what I said. Maybe it’s an inconvenience to you, but someone just lost their life so I’m pretty sure their day’s been worse than yours.”
“You haven’t heard the last of this! I want your badge number; I’m going to file a grievance with your boss!”
“You go right ahead. It’s Detective Laytner, that’s L-A-Y-T-N-E-R, twenty-seventh precinct.” Dee reeled off his badge number from memory. “Ask for Chief Smith.”
“I’ll have your job!”
“I doubt that.”
