Summary: Gwen wants more excitement in her life than she gets from Rhys.

A/N: Double drabble.

Rhys was a good man, solid and dependable. Gwen knew he loved her, even though she could be difficult. He was even willing to put up with her long hours and the fact that these days most of the household chores fell to him. He complained, he wouldn’t be Rhys the Rant if he didn’t, but he always forgave her.

‘I should be satisfied with what I’ve got,’ she told herself. It was just, Torchwood had opened her eyes to so many amazing things. It was a terrifying thrill ride, making Rhys seem dull and ordinary in comparison. She wanted her love life to be as exciting as her work life, and it just… wasn’t.

Her affair with Owen brought all the old excitement back, sneaking around to be with him, hiding their liaisons from her teammates, and from her boyfriend. She didn’t love Owen, but he was there, willing and available.

She’d thought at first that maybe she and Jack might get together, because he was bloody gorgeous, any woman would want him, but he just kept pushing her back towards Rhys, so Owen had won by default.

‘I shouldn’t be doing this, but I don’t want to stop.’

We all know how I feel about her. She made a ton of excuses for cheating on Rhys, but that's all they were, excuses to justify doing what she wanted to do.

John Hart(directed at Gwen): Honestly, it's just sex, sex, sex with you.

It was a filler plot line. I'd rather Owen had rebuff her.

It would have been better if Owen had come on to her and Gwen had said no. Then I might have had some respect for the character.

Yeah. That probably would have been a better fit. Especially when Owen fell for Diane Holmes. At least by then their affair had fizzled out.

I don't see why happy relationships can't be interesting? In "The Ghost Machine", there was the flashback of Gwen witnessing herself and Rhys having a laugh.

And Gwen hadn't noticed anything going on between Owen and Diane. She thought he still had the hots for her.

We were supposed to identify with Gwen, think she was wonderful, and yet she cheated on her boyfriend repeatedly, lied to him constantly, and drugged him so she could confess and make herself feel better without suffering any consequences. I was so glad Rhys refused to forgive her, but I wish the retcon hadn't worked and he'd kicked her out.

But didn't Owen call it quits after that? Resulting in Gwen crying in self-pity with Pizza? My memory is vague because I don't want to rewatch that part.

It would have been better had Gwen confessed properly or Rhys had overpowered the retcon. She choose to be a coward about it. No redeeming what so ever.*shakes head*

There are people who probably do this in real life. The cheating and lying part*signs*

I think Owen had lost interest in Gwen well before that, but I don't remember. The crying scene was after she retconned Rhys and he failed to forgive her, so she went to the Hub expecting everyone to rally around her, and nobody was there. I gloated at that scene, although it was all crocodile tears and self pity.

Cheating is not something to applaud, or be proud of.

Okay. I suppose Gwen's "pity party of one" was the least RTD could do. Affairs should not be glorified. Rhys deserved to be treated far better. I really felt for him when he realised what Gwen had done. To forget that. What a low blow.:(

I wish RTD could have work another plotline if he really needed to put "mature" content in Torchwood .

But RTD adored Gwen, she could do no wrong in his eyes because she was perfect and pure and her affair was of course TOTALLY justified, because the poor girl couldn't talk to Rhys about her job so she just had to cheat on him with a co-worker... *rolls eyes* It was all complete crap in my opinion.

Usually a character suffers consequences for such actions. Most people would talk to a counsellor. But then that would be more rational.*deadpan*

She was casually lying to him even before she joined Torchwood. And she didn't need to lie about work, just tell Rhys she'd signed the official secrets act and couldn't talk about her work.

Yeah. Gwen could be pretty overdramatic. Rhys would have understood.

But expecting him to forgive her for cheating on the spot was pretty unrealistic. Of course he would be angry and say a definite "no". I bet she wouldn't have been so forgiving if he cheated on her.

Makes one believe it was better had Gwen forgotten Rhys permanently in the episode: Adam.

That would have been too easy, and poor Rhys would still have been hurt. Gwen simply shouldn't have cheated on him, which is the theme for the Torchwood drabble I'll be posting on Saturday.
