A/N: Triple drabble and a half, 350 words.
“What’s in the bags?” Bikky asked, trailing hopefully after his foster father in case there might be something for him.
“Oh, just some new clothes. Dee and I went shopping; a men’s wear store we like had a sale on, and I needed a new pair of pants to replace the ones that got ruined the other week.” Ryo dropped his bags on his bed and started emptying them.
“Clothes?” Bikky made a disgusted noise. “Boring!”
Ryo laughed. “You’ll probably change your tune as you get older. I know when I was your age I hated shopping for clothes as much as you do, but nowadays I enjoy treating myself to a few new things when I can afford to. It means I can feel good about myself when I go out, even if I’m just going to work. It’s important for me to look smart.”
“I’m never gonna like buying clothes,” Bikky insisted. “I wish I could just always wear the same things and never grow out of them. Just when I get used to something it’s suddenly too small!”
“You don’t want to be small all your life though. How many short basketball players can you name?”
Bikky frowned. “Okay, so I have to grow, but I wish my clothes would grow with me.”
“I think I wish that too,” Ryo admitted. “You grow out of things so fast I have a hard time keeping up.”
“Sorry.”
“Don’t be, it’s part of life, and it means I’m doing a good job of raising you.”
“Well, if you’re sure you don’t mind.” Bikky watched as Ryo removed the labels from two new pairs of pants, three shirts, several t-shirts… “You bought a lot.”
“Everything was less than half price, so I’m saving money in the long run. I just hope I can avoid getting anything else ruined at work for a while. I suppose I should be grateful it was only cargo pants and not one of my suits that got wrecked. Those are really expensive. Being a cop is as hard on the wardrobe as being a kid.”
