“Whaddaya say we do somethin’ fun tonight,” Dee suggested as he and Ryo left work.

“After the day we’ve had?” Ryo couldn’t believe his ears. “I’m too tired to do anything other than grab a shower and fall into bed. In fact I’m seriously considering skipping the shower and going straight to bed.” Double shifts were exhausting.

“I just thought… feels like forever since we’ve seen each other outside of work.”

“Overtime will do that.” Ryo glanced curiously at his partner. “How can you not be tired?”

“I never claimed I wasn’t tired, but we’ve done nothin’ but work for the last two weeks, and y’know what they say about all work and no play. I don’t want us gettin’ into a rut.”

“If it’s a comfy rut with pillows I wouldn’t mind,” Ryo murmured. “I could sleep just about anywhere right now.”

“Doesn’t haveta be anything strenuous; we could grab a bite to eat then go see a movie. We both gotta eat, right? And it’s never a good idea to go straight to bed after a meal.”

Ryo knew when he was beaten. “Fine. Food, movie, then home and bed.”

“I guess I can live with that.”

The chilly night air woke them both up a bit, and the food helped too. It was only burgers and fries, but Ryo hadn’t realised how hungry he was until he started to eat. There was a movie theatre just down the block from Burger King, so after they finished their meal they joined the queue outside, finally deciding to see an action thriller that had been getting good reviews.

Two hours later, they headed outside again to get a taxi home.

“That was a great movie, wasn’t it?” Dee said.

“I wouldn’t know. I think I only saw the first five minutes,” Ryo admitted. “I slept through the rest.”

Dee gave a lopsided grin. “Yeah, me too.”

Ryo laughed. “So we just paid to spend two hours asleep in a movie theatre? We’re officially idiots, we could’ve just taken our burgers home and fallen asleep in front of the TV.”

The downside of going to a movie tired. Hopefully it was at least a good nap.
