“Help! Jack!”

It was Ianto’s voice! The cry was faint with distance, but still just audible over the gusting wind. Jack didn’t hesitate, immediately setting off in the direction it had come from.

“I’m coming, Ianto! I’ll save you!” He hoped it wasn’t cannibals; been there, done that, and nobody was allowed to eat his Ianto!

The two of them had driven into the Brecon Beacons to investigate strange lights on the hilltops. They’d separated to cover more ground, in hindsight perhaps not the best idea, but Ianto was an experienced hiker and both of them were immortal, so they should have been fine. Only now, apparently Ianto wasn’t.

Jack kept to a fast walk rather than running; it wouldn’t help Ianto if he fell and broke something. The wind was getting stronger and at times it was hard to make progress, like trying to push his way through a wall of air.

“Ianto? Where are you?”

“Down here!”

All Jack could see was a lot of foliage, a small, stunted tree that had recently been toppled by the wind.

Around the other side was a deep hole, and in the hole was Ianto.

“What happened?”

“I fell in, twpsyn!”
