Summary: Something vaguely familiar has fallen through the Rift. If only Jack could remember…

A/N: Double drabble.




There was something vaguely familiar about the latest object to fall though the Rift, but Jack couldn’t put his finger on why. Perhaps he’d seen another like it, or at least very similar, a long time ago, or perhaps it was something he’d been told, or had read.


He stared at it intently, hoping that perhaps he could jar the memory loose in his brain if he just thought hard enough.


“Are you just going to stand there staring at it?” Ianto asked, hands on hips. “Or are you going to help me with it?”


Jack never took his eyes off the object. “No.”


“Wonderful. Leave it all to me then.”


Ianto started forwards, and Jack did look at him then. “No. Don’t touch it.”


“What’s wrong?” Ianto halted immediately, hearing the wary uncertainty in his lover’s voice. “What is it?”


“I don’t know, it’s just a feeling I’ve got, like I should know but can’t quite remember.” He studied the flat, greyish-green ovoid, shook his head, annoyed by a buzzing in his ears, and then he knew, grabbing for Ianto. “RUN!”


Ianto couldn’t hear the buzzing, his ears not that sharp, but he ran.


Behind them, the device exploded.
