Double Drabble: Overreaction

Summary: Ianto is injured, and Jack is panicking.

A/N: Double drabble.




“Don’t make such a fuss, Jack,” Ianto grumbled. “It’s just a scratch.”


As injuries went, it was relatively minor; he’d caught his hand on a wickedly barbed thorn, but the wound was shallow and only bleeding a little. He’d sustained far worse injuries during his career with Torchwood; he’d been shot, stabbed, chewed on, mauled by irate weevils, concussed several times, and suffered numerous lacerations.


“I hate to think how you’d react if I got a paper cut.”


“We don’t know what this plant is!” Jack snapped, marching Ianto through the underground garage, into the main Hub, and towards the med bay. “It’s alien! It could be deathly poisonous or carrying alien bacteria or other organisms lethal to humans!”


“I feel fine, my hand doesn’t even hurt.”


Ianto’s attempt at reassurance only served to alarm Jack further.


“See? It could contain a nerve agent of some kind, numbing you so you don’t even feel it when bits start falling off!”


“What a cheery thought.”


“Just let Owen check you over and run tests on the plant. Please!”


“Fine, but only because you asked nicely. Honestly, sometimes I think you’d wrap me in cottonwool if you could get away with it.”

The wrapping will come later when Owen has given Ianto a clean bill of health. Ianto will indulge him because he knows how Jack worries, and he secretly enjoys it for a short time

Yeah, a bit of being coddled is acceptable, but Jack is right to check. Alien plants are an unknown quantity. Not a good idea to take unnecessary chances with them.
