Oh, yay! They're making a new round! I'm so happy for you. This definitively sounds right up your alley. :) Now you can experience the agony and the ecstasy that is Bingo. LOL.
The prolific way you've been writing lately, though, I'm sure it will be more ecstasy than agony. ;)
I don't know about that - mostly I've just been writing drabbles, trying to get far enough ahead so I can keep posting them regularly. Taking on writing a lot of longer stories is going to stretch me, but aviv_b did say that if there was another round and if I signed up, then she would too. I'm hoping RL will allow her to do that, I'd like to not be the only Torchwood writer doing it *wibbles*
I HAVE to sign up though. It's probably the only bingo I have any hope of getting anywhere with, and who knows if there will ever be another round? I think it's about 2 years since the last round, so if I ever want to try my hand at a bingo, this is my chance.
I'm secretly hoping that there will be prompts on my card that fit some of the fics I've already written but not posted yet, or some of the ideas I already have, lol!
Ah, but you have done several drabbles with sequels and if Cotton Candy Bingo is anything like Hurt/Comfort Bingo, those count as a fill as long as they make the minimum word count. (The only requirement I had to meet to use a drabble series was that they all be posted on one page.) I know you can do it! :)
I'm glad Aviv_b will be joining you. I'm afraid most of those prompts are a bit out of my angst/smut comfort zone for me to sign up, but I'd be happy to help if you want someone to bounce ideas off of or have any questions about bingos in general. :)
I'm practising writing stories made up of drabbles at the moment. Done several with 5 or 6 drabbles, one with 10, and I'm working on one that could be longer. It's quite an economical way of writing. They'll be posted as complete stories. Who knows, maybe some that are already written but not posted will fit some of the squares on my bingo card!
I'm not aiming for a blackout on my first try (would be nice, but it's a bit ambitious), I'll try for a line or two, depending on my prompts and how they're laid out on my bingo card.
Thank you! Idea-bouncing will probably come in useful, as would any information and advice on posting to bingo communities and figuring out the posting templates. My mind is boggling a bit. Do I just post fics to my journal as I write them and then make a post at the bingo community linking to the fics once I have a line? Really not sure how it works o_O
Yes, you're correct--you can post the fics to your journal (and anywhere else you like) as you write them, but you don't post anything at the bingo comm until you have completed all the lines you're going to make. Then you post the information about your fics, along with the links to them, at the comm using the posting template they give you. It's a simple cut-and-paste job; not nearly as complicated as it sounds. :)
So I wait until I've written everything I can and then post at the community, rather than doing a separate post for each completed line?
If I get stuck, I'll yell for help, lol!
Thank you!
I'll also want to put my bingo card on my journal and fill it in as I go. It'll keep me (hopefully) from forgetting and duplicating squares. Any idea how that's done?
I took a look at their rules and it seems like you can post when you have one bingo, and then post again when you have another. So if you completed a straight line bingo you could post it, and then post again when you completed another.
You do know there are other types of bingos available than straight lines, right? You might decided to go for one of those instead, depending on your prompts.
You can also go for "extras" after you've completed a bingo, which are fills for certain combinations of squares, that get you extra points. Those you can post as you go along, after you post your first bingo.
Posting the card isn't to your journal isn't difficult. If they do what Hurt/Comfort bingo did, they'll give you the code that generates your card, and you just copy/paste it into a post. Once it's posted, you should be able to use the "insert strikethrough" button on the editing tab to cross off the prompts as you fill them.
Yes, I took a look at the scoring and saw they seem to have just about every possible combination covered, from a diamond shape, to all atound the edge of the card, to various diagonals and blocks... The variety of ways you can get a bingo is staggering, lol! I have a feeling my card might resemble a patchwork quilt by the time I'm finished. Not that I HAVE a card yet, sign-ups are on the first of Feb, I believe.
Sounds like you're doing well with your trope bingo card! If I'd signed up for that then I wouldn't be able to sign up for this one, I don't think it'd be possible to juggle two bingos at once!
Fics often surprise you - you think they'll be short but they just keep going! Looking forward to reading both =)
I am. I think this bingo fits me because I don't always write angst/hurt&comfort and I don't always do fluff and with this one I can do either as long as it fits the prompt. Its just a matter of finding the time to get all the writing done and keeping the stories shorter.
Trope bingo didn't really suit me. I looked at a few people's cards and the prompts just didn't feel like a good fit for my writing so I decided against it. Cotton Candy will hopefully work better for me, but the link to the potential prompts doesn't work yet, so I still have no idea what sorts of things I might get.
Time to write isn't always easy to come by, I just hope I'm not putting too much pressure on myself by signing up for this one *wibbles*
Thanks! Just took a look and some of those don't look particularly fluffy, more h/c! Hopefully I'll get a card that works for me. I think we're allowed to veto up to 10 prompts, so I'll see what the final list is and which ones I'd struggle most with.
Life really has a bad habit of getting in the way of writing, doesn't it. Today has been a menace, I've written one single drabble =(
It is, but so far it looks like I'll be the only Torchwood writer doing it - that's a daunting prospect! Especially as I've never done a bingo before and I have no clue o_O
Bingos are fun, but this one doesn't really fit me. Well, I hate to say it but most of them don't work for me at all, and since we're not doing the Long Live Ianto Bingo this year...I guess I'll just have to rely on my own imagination. :)
No worries there then, you have such an amazing imagination! Besides, what people really want is Dragon-Ianto! The Breaking is my morning treat over breakfast =)
I think the only bingos that would work for me are Cotton Candy or Schmoop. Or Fluff, but I've never seen a specific Fluff Bingo mentioned.
You should see some of my bunnies - they're so fluffy they look like pompoms with ears, lol!
Oooh, looking forward to the Meat episode! I'm in no hurry for The Breaking to end though, it's a pleasure to see Torchwood dealing efficiently and sensibly with the events of CoE instead of acting like idiots.
Ok - I'm going to give it a try! I'd like to take a look at the trope card - if only that it might give me some ideas. Making Bingo is less important to me than getting back into writing - TW anyway.
Also - I don't get on DW very often, so could you post when you get your card so I'll know its time to get one?
Yep, I'll post here when I get my card (assuming I can figure out how to do it!) I'll make sure you know anyway. It would be great to see you writing more again, and you've done bingos before so I might be able to pick your brain for the technical stuff, lol!
Get your fluff nice and fluffy! So far they're saying February the 1st, so I'll update you when I find out more.
No idea if I'll achieve a b ingo of any kind, but I want to get my bingo feet wet so we'll see what happens o_O
Yay you're doing a bingo! They are great fun, you'll enjoy it :-)
Can I do a dreamwidth bingo from an lj account? I don't want tt have to sign up to dw as well. If I can, I might have to join you in the bingo challenge - depending on the possible prompts. I'll have to go take a look at them when the links are working.
I sent you a link with my reply to your previous comment. I think you can still enter even without a dw account, but I'm not positive, have to check that out. It would be fun if you joined in, you could help me make sense of posting formats and scoring. My brain goes blank when it comes to the technical aspects! Plus, they really need more Torchwood writers contributing. We need to show everyone the fandom is alive and well!

Date: 2014-01-23 02:16 pm (UTC)I finally finished my fairy tale fill and it went off to beta last night. I wanted to keep that at 500 words and it ended up being 3.5K words/
Next up is finale to The Shed/How which will also fit another fill.
Good luck and hope you get some good prompts.
