Title: Watcher
Fandom: BtVS
Author:
[livejournal.com profile] badly_knitted
Characters: Giles, Buffy.
Rating: PG
Written Using: The dw100 prompt ‘Worry’.
Setting: Late Season One.
Summary: As Buffy’s Watcher, Giles can’t help but worry about her.
Disclaimer: I don’t own BtVS, or the characters. They belong to the amazing Joss Whedon.
A/N: Double drabble.

Giles worries; he can’t help it. He’s been a member of the Watcher’s Council for years, but now he’s responsible for the Slayer and she’s so young. Of course all Slayers are young, and few survive more than a few brief years, which is another cause for worry.

Watchers are supposed to be efficient and unemotional. The Slayer is the tool of the Council, their weapon in the fight against demons, and Giles knows he should remain detached, but he suspects it was too late for that the day he first met Buffy. She’s an exasperating girl, and so American, which he supposes is only to be expected since she was born and raised there, but she has spirit, and empathy, and a big heart. He can’t help but care about her. No matter what the Watcher’s Council might preach, she’s not some kind of soulless thing to be ordered around; she’s a person, and she deserves to be treated as such.

So he worries whenever she’s out on patrol, frets over whether or not he’s trained her well enough, prays for her safety, and breathes a sigh of relief when she returns unharmed. She’s all that matters to him.

The End

I always wondered why the Watchers Council was from England, while the Slayer was from another district. Maybe I'm reading too much into this.

Lovely story.:)

Thanks for clarifying that. It seemed like just a coincidence that Buffy ended up in Sunnydale. The pilot is suppose to be a continuation from the movie.

I hear what you're saying. Once was enough for me. It was lucky that there was a TV series at all. Sarah Michelle Geller said that a title like that is a hard sell. That most people would not take it seriously.

And what a pay off. Some shows can get cancelled so easily.

The network made sure to give the series enough exposure to attract viewers. That seldom happens these day. Technology has change now with streaming media.

I stick to general YouTube links uploaded or sometimes free to air Australia. I don't watch livestream.

Which is why I lost track/couldn't bother with the latest series of DW unfortunately.*shrugs*

I watched the first quarter, then gave up. I've been keeping tabs via promos and articles. To see if I want to watch it again.

There doesn't seem to be much chemistry between Jack and the Thirteenth Doctor aka the actors.

It's like when people bumped into each other after many years apart and one of them has changed.

Anyway, I heard John Bishop is going to become a companion.

I would have been more awkward with Twelve though because of the resemblance to John Frobisher. I doubt they'll address if Jack resents the Doctor for the 456. Which by the way reminds me of a bus number.*shrugs*

John Bishop is an English comedian/actor. That's the least I know of him. But this may mean Yaz still won't get further character development.*theory*

I talk more about DW, than actually watching it these days.*sighs*

I find Peter Capaldi acting to be understated. I forget he has been in the Whoverse as three different characters.:)

The Time War would have been horrific for the Doctor. Torchwood emphasized how traumatic a similar situation could be. So, I agree with you. That off-screen time got rewritten or the Doctor changed the events so Jack didn't lose Ianto and Steven.

I've never seen John Bishop do stand up, but I saw him on The Graham Norton Show and other live shows a few times and liked his personality. Only time will tell if his presence will help on DW.

Actors with his range can usually alleviate an average script.:)

Now, I could just picture Jack with a vortex manipulator. Trying to do the job himself.*ponders*

Yeah.*sighs*

Like a duck to water. Otherwise it takes loads of training.

Jack should, because he'd be good...at it.*fails to rhyme*

I'm going to seriously go with that concept over the tragedy that was COE.
