Fandom: BtVS
Author:

Characters: Joyce, Buffy.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 224: Making A Fresh Start at
drabble_weekly.
Spoilers/Setting: Pre-series.
Summary: Joyce is looking forward to moving to Sunnydale; Buffy isn’t as enthusiastic.
Disclaimer: I don’t own BtVS, or the characters. They belong to the amazing Joss Whedon.
A/N: Double drabble.
This was what they both needed, Joyce decided; a fresh start. The divorce had been finalised, and she’d done pretty well out of it; in the end it had all been reasonably amicable, as far as such things went. She and Hank had actually started getting along a lot better once they weren’t living together, and he hadn’t fought her on anything. Both of them wanted what was best for their daughter and they’d kept that as their focus.
It had taken a while, but she’d even managed to find a school that would accept Buffy despite her… problems. It meant moving to a small town some distance from L.A., but maybe that was for the best. House prices were cheaper there, and the rent for her new gallery’s premises probably would be too. This was going to work. She just wished her daughter would show a bit more enthusiasm.
“Come on, honey, it’ll be great! A new house, you can decorate your room however you want, and Sunnydale’s right on the coast; you’ll love that. Think of this as an adventure!”
“But I’ll be leaving all my friends behind!”
“You’ll make new friends.” Hopefully better than the old ones.

Date: 2021-01-10 07:07 am (UTC)Okay. I've moved house and changed schools a few times. It's pretty much the end of that old friendship/s. Then being the new girl, who awkwardly makes new ones at the next school, trying to avoid those who have a hidden agenda.
*pause*
I maybe projecting here.

I'm still sad about Cordelia's fate.

I think the Cordelia storyline went off the rails. She and Angel should have remained just friends, and she should have just been vision girl.

Yes. They sometimes had their arguments, but overall were there for each other when it mattered.
In theory, (friends to lovers trope) it seemed like a natural progression, but for storytelling purposes, not so much.
The behind the scenes conflict and the Jasmine plot didn't help. At least Cordelia got to say goodbye to Angel, even if it was just in his head.
I heard Charisma Carpenter struggled to execute that last line but said in an interview afterwards she understood why Joss Whedon directed it that way.
