A/N: For red_day_dawning’s prompt ‘a horse carriage without a driver’

“Just got a report about a driverless horse and carriage in Bute Park,” Jack announced to the team.

“What’s that got to do with us?” grumbled Owen.

“Apparently, it appeared in a flash of light, going flat out, and nearly mowed down a family picnic. Sounds like one of ours to me. C’mon, people, let’s go round it up.”

Ianto frowned at Jack.

“I thought you said ‘carriage’.”

“That’s what I was told,” Jack shrugged.

“Humph. You’d think no one had ever seen a Roman chariot before,” Ianto muttered testily as he led the chariot and pair into a Harwood’s lorry.

I guess nearly getting mown down by it might keep the witnesses from getting a clear look at it. It's an easy mistake to make when you're running for your life!

Two of them! I had to do a slight edit after writing when research showed that Roman chariots are usually pulled by two or more horses - eight abreast for a racing chariot, but I thought that was a bit too much, lol!

Turns out, not only did they mistake the chariot for a carriage, they miscounted the horses! Now Ianto has to find somewhere to stable them. (Roman chariots, it seems, are pulled by at least two).

On the bright side, once they're broken to saddle, Ianto and Jack can go riding. The horses will probably have a better, more peaceful life in 21st century Cardiff.

Ianto likes to catalogue things properly so they can be found again easily, it annoys him when people are imprecise, lol! Not sure how you'd archive a chariot though... I hope there's room for it in the Torchwood garage!

Iato says he'll take them to a livery stable, get them checked over by a vet and properly registered and innoculated. They're probably not broken to saddle, so that'll be the next step. He and Jack usually rent horses when they want to go riding. Now they can have their own. They might be able to rent the Chariot out once it's cleaned up.
