A/N: Double drabble.

Ianto was used to discovering weird things as he sorted through the piles of ephemera stored in the archives. All manner of objects had been stuffed down there over the course of more than a century, many of them things that would have appeared to be of alien origin to people from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries but were now identifiable as commonplace earth items from more recent times.

This, however…

He couldn’t begin to imagine why anyone would think it necessary to store a log down here. It was big, heavy, and solid, and in remarkably good condition, possibly because it was stored in one of the driest rooms, with good air circulation.

He tapped his Bluetooth earpiece. “Jack? Can you come down to the archives? I need you to look at something.”

When he arrived, Jack took one look and burst out laughing. “So that’s where it went!”

“Care to enlighten me?”

“During the first world war firewood was in short supply but Torchwood One had connections and sent each branch a yule log every year. Nineteen-eighteen’s log was lost when a head injury caused the head of Torchwood Three to forget where he’d put it.”
