Summary: From being the institute’s least respect branch, suddenly Torchwood Three is in charge.

A/N: Double drabble.




For most of its existence, Torchwood Three had been considered little more than an outpost, only there because the Rift needed to be monitored. Among the institute’s various branches, Torchwood One was head of the household, Two was the elderly but respected grandfather, Four was the adventurous favourite son, and Three was the poor cousin, the black sheep of the family, more or less tolerated but not welcome at family gatherings.


Then Torchwood Four went missing, the Battle of Canary Wharf destroyed Torchwood Tower, all of management and the senior staff wound up dead or missing, and suddenly Torchwood Three was in charge.


Although Jack deeply regretted the loss of life, and blamed Yvonne Hartman’s arrogance and stupidity, he welcomed the opportunity to control both his and Torchwood’s destinies. It was time for a change, time to discard the old mantra of ‘If it’s alien, it’s ours’ and turn what was left of the institute into a force for good, paving the way for the people of earth to venture out into the universe and develop mutually beneficial relationships with other races.


It was a massive undertaking, but Jack was ready to fight for the future of the human race.
