Summary: Ryo is enjoying staying on a farm, but Dee’s having a spot of trouble with one of the locals.

Ryo smiled contentedly as he made his way back towards the farmhouse after feeding the chickens. This little taste of farm life was delightful; he was glad he and Dee had decided to book a room here for several days instead of just a single night. He was enjoying helping out with feeding the various creatures.


He was just beginning to wonder here his partner had gotten to when Dee came tearing around the side of the barn.


“Duck!” he yelled.


Accustomed as he was to the dangerous life of a New York cop, Ryo reacted instinctively to the warning, dropping into a crouch, already scanning the farmyard for danger, and wishing he had his gun.


“No, dumbass!” Dee pointed back the way he’d come. “Duck!”


Wings flapping wildly and webbed feet pounding against the cracked concrete, Dee’s pursuer appeared, hissing and honking, craning its long neck, looking as fearsome as it could manage.


Ryo frowned at it as he straightened up. “That’s not a duck, it’s a goose; don’t you know anything?”


“I don’t care what it is!” Dee skidded to a halt, taking refuge behind his partner. “The damned thing wants to eat me!”


“Somehow I doubt that.”

I've never found that personally. There used to be one at the local nature reserve that would come when I whistled and follow me around.
