Summary: All Buffy had wanted was an ordinary boyfriend, but Riley hasn’t been honest with her.

A/N: Double drabble.




Buffy can scarcely believe it. All this time Riley’s been lying to her; he’s not just a college student and teaching assistant, he’s part of some kind of military unit called the Initiative, tasked with researching and combating vampires and demons.


She’s angry and insulted; Sunnydale is her territory! As the Slayer, the vamps and other supernatural creatures are her responsibility. Has she not been doing a good enough job of slaying them?


She feels hurt too, and betrayed. She’d thought she could trust Riley with her heart but since before they met he’s had a secret agenda. All she’d wanted after Angel was to find a nice, ordinary boy she could love, who’d love her in return; someone she could have a proper relationship with. But Riley’s nowhere near as ordinary as he’d made himself out to be. Has he just been using her?


Okay, so she’s been keeping secrets from him too, but that was for his protection! She didn’t want to drag him into her dangerous world, and honestly, she’d needed to have someone outside of her life as the Slayer so she could snatch a bit of normality for herself.


Maybe she should have known better.

True. I assume Riley went soul searching before getting married.

Who knows? I mean he left Buffy then shows up back in Sunnydale just a few months later, married. He can't have really loved Buffy if he could get over her so fast.

Yeah. The situation wasn't just clean cut. He was leaning on Buffy to feel needed. While she wanted to be independent. Hence why they were better apart. Sometimes desires/lust is misinterpreted as love.
