Doctor Who Drabble: Rough Ride

Summary: Rory finds riding in the TARDIS a bit alarming at times.

Sometimes travelling in the TARDIS felt like going down too fast in a lift, only it never went straight; it bucked all over the place. All anyone could do was hold on tight and hope for the best.


The Doctor excused it by saying TARDISes weren’t designed to be flown by one person; usually they had a crew, but this one had been obsolete, on the scrap heap when he’d taken it. A rough ride was a small price to pay for the ability to visit any place or time whenever he chose.


Rory prayed they’d arrive in one piece.

Rory never got to travel with the Doctor during "Journeys End". When there was more than enough people to pilot the TARDIS.

Amy: Doctor, how come she can fly the TARDIS?
Eleventh Doctor: You call that flying the TARDIS? Ha!
River: Okay. I've mapped the probability vectors, done a fold-back on the temporal isometry, charted the ship to its destination, and parked us right along side.

And wasn't present to see how his own daughter piloted the TARDIS. The things you notice afterwards.

Amy: Doctor, that's River. How can she be up there?
Rory: It must be like a recording or something.
Eleventh Doctor: No, it's not. Of course, the emergency protocols. The TARDIS has sealed off the control room and put her into a time loop to save her. She is right at the heart of the explosion.

The TARDIS always trusted and protected River Song.:)

River: It's a time machine. I can take it, do whatever I want for as long as I like and pop it back a second later. He'll never know it was gone.
Twelfth Doctor: Yes, he will.
River: How?
Twelfth Doctor: He'll just know.
River: Well, he's never noticed before.
Twelfth Doctor: Maybe he'll notice now.

It's canon that the TARDIS didn't tell him either.;)

I know! *grins* The Doctor should learn to communicate better with his TARDIS! Maybe they should go to couples counselling. ;)
