Double Drabble: Forgiving
Aug. 25th, 2020 07:04 pmTitle: Forgiving
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Jack, Grey.
Rating: PG
Written For: Challenge 619: Handle at
tw100.
Spoilers: Exit Wounds.
Summary: Jack can’t hate his brother.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
Jack grasped the handle of the morgue drawer and pulled; the cryogenic compartment slid out smoothly, silently, and he wiped the top clear of condensation, staring down at his brother’s face, trying to recognise in the adult features the little boy he remembered.
Grey had been such a happy, lively child, always running and laughing. Even as a baby he’d giggled more than he’d cried, and growing up he’d hero-worshipped his older brother. Sometimes he’d been annoying, pestering Jayce, as Jack had been called then, demanding attention, tagging along when Jayce wanted to play with his friends, kids his own age, but most of the time he’d loved his baby brother.
Then the Raiders had come, their father had given Grey into his older son’s protection, and…
Tears stung Jack’s eyes. He’d failed his brother, let go of Grey’s hand, and that had been the last time he’d see him until Grey had shown up in Cardiff with John Hart.
Now Tosh and Owen were dead, and yet Jack couldn’t find it in himself to blame Grey for being angry and bitter.
“I’m sorry, Grey, and I forgive you.” He slid the draw back in, wishing he could forgive himself.

Date: 2020-08-27 09:40 am (UTC)The Torchwood Hub could have use a karaoke machine. Jack could've sang away his sorrows. Kind of like how they did on "Angel". I liked when Gunn, Cordelia and Wesley did their rendition of Queens: We are the Champions.

Date: 2020-08-28 10:36 am (UTC)Jack: No, you're not. And you never will.
In his alone time, he could have had a jukebox. It would be easier than climbing that tall building in the early promos to gain reflection. Come to think of it, maybe he went up there to get away from Gwen.

Jack: That might have been easier.
Jack is so worldly.
I wish they had done a better job of disguising the fact that it was a mannequin and not JB up there. But then it is difficult to replicate the looks of JB.:)
I suggest a rooftop style scene a' la "Angel".
I'm the same. I've been in tall city buildings. It's a bad idea if I attempt to look down through a window. When I was in Malaysia, I tried crossing an "Indiana Jones" style bridge. I couldn't go across all the way, so I went back from where I came from. So much for facing my fears of heights.*sighs*

Date: 2020-08-29 09:47 am (UTC)Well, they could hardly stick the star of the show up that high! Even if he wanted to do it...
I think tat's where RTD got the idea. He didn't have many original ideas, most he just borrowed from other shows.
I've been up to the top of St Paul's Cathedral in London, that was great, an amazing view, but I've never been in a skyscraper.

Date: 2020-08-29 10:16 am (UTC)Jeffrey Donovan on doing stunts in "Burn Notice": If there's a chance I will die. I will not do it.
Oh no. I wouldn't want JB to do his own dangerous stunts. Jack is immortal, not suicidal. Why go up there?*Goes back to Gwen theory*
I imagine the following happened:
Production Team: Can we put a mannequin on top of your building for filming?
Owner of building: Okay. No crazy stunts. I don't want a lawsuit.
Joss Whedon was known for "beefing up" other writers work to make the script better. So if RTD was going to copy from anyone, Whedon was the man to replicate from.*shrugs*
Me, Sydney's Centre Point Tower and Canberra's Telstra's Tower. It's only the brave who climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge and it cost's money to do so. I wouldn't do it for free. I will only go over it on public transport or car.

Date: 2020-08-29 06:55 pm (UTC)Two theories. One, it got him closer to the stars he missed so much. Two, it allowed him to look out over the city that was under his protection.
Only trouble is, I think RTD watered down the scrips written by other people, probably adding more Gwen, having Gwen do and say things that were originally done or said by other characters.
Those are both very high!

Date: 2020-08-29 07:42 pm (UTC)Oh wow! I'd just be concern for your safety. Although Stana Katic said in her opinion stunt work co-ordination is far safer than say a theme park. Upon being interviewed about doing her own stunts on Castle. Maybe it's because she sees how they set things up to make it all secure.
Great theories. Picture it: JB in a hot air balloon singing the song, "Beautiful Balloon" By The Fifth Dimension.
Have you seen the movie Danny Deckchair staring Rhys Ifans? Because now I'm flashbacking to anything balloon related.*grins*
There was no need to add more water. Let things grow on their own accord Rusty! Scripts are not plants.*thinks of a cactus*
Yes. It's been years since I've been anywhere high. I miss going sightseeing. It's just home and the local shops for the time being.*Covic-19*

Date: 2020-08-30 10:02 am (UTC)JB could totally do that. Someone should suggest it to him ;)
No, I haven't. I din't watch many movies unless they're SF.
Yeah, RTD just doesn't get it. He's not a tenth the writer that Joss Whedon is.
I didn't go out much even before Covid, but now it's so scary!
no subject
Date: 2020-08-30 12:00 pm (UTC)Maybe we could spread the word. I sometimes chat with Basmathgirl about JB.:)
Okay, it was a local movie. The title gives half the plot away.
RTD could have done illustrations for "Angel" instead.*drawing straws*
Angel to Lorne: So, we made it then. This is your world.
Lorne: Oh yes. Home sweet hell.
Angel: Ha! I'm not on fire."
I love Angels glee at being out in the daylight.:)
I'm an introvert and I prefer the choice of staying home. I should be thankful that Covid didn't hit earlier when the purpose of going out for me was to get over my social phobia. Eventually I realise that needed to strike a balance. There is such a thing as having too much of something.
Anyway, we just have to wait this whole situation out.*sighs*

Date: 2020-08-30 06:42 pm (UTC)I loved Angel in sunlight, I wished he could stay human, but he sacrificed his chance at happiness to remain as a Champion.
I prefer to stay home but when I do have to go out it's even harder now than it used to be.

Date: 2020-08-31 10:37 am (UTC)Angel destroyed the "Gem of Amara" ring because he wanted to atone for his sins as Angelus. It should have been made with a warranty: Can only be worn by a good soul.
Some people like to go walk about. I like to go sightseeing every so often on my own. That way, I can appreciate that I have a home to go back to. Gardening could be included as an outdoor activity. That's right in your backyard.:)

Date: 2020-08-31 07:17 pm (UTC)I'm out in the garden every day when the weather is good enough.

Date: 2020-09-01 06:21 am (UTC)So that means Angel was able to go out in the daylight on three separate occasions under different circumstances. This might not mean much on other vampire shows. But it matters to me.
I said goodbye to winter yesterday. Hello Autumn!
no subject
Date: 2020-09-01 10:25 am (UTC)Yeah, that must have felt amazing for him.
Autumn seems to be starting early here this year. I am so cold it's ridiculous.

Date: 2020-09-01 11:59 am (UTC)Angel is crying too now: "Shh, please. Please."
In a video review, they indicated that David Boreanaz actually mouths "Sarah" instead of saying "Shh" if you look closely. I don't know how SMG manages to cry like that. It looks quite emotionally draining. I heard they had to close down the set for that scene, so she could wind down.
You poor thing. It's still abit nippy in early morning/night here. I depended on my trusty sleeping bag over the winter months. I can't handle piling multiple blankets on top of me.
When my mum first came to Australia. She said it took her body a while to adjust in this cold climate. Indonesia is hot all year round, except for the wet weather. That's tropical countries for you.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-01 07:32 pm (UTC)Yeah, August is supposed to be the hottest month but the last few days it's been 14 or 15 C, which is in the 50s F. Insane! I'm wrapped in so any layers trying to keep warm indoors. It's warmer outside.
I wouldn't want year round tropical temperatures, but I guess it's not so bad when it's what you're used to. Adjusting couldn't have been easy.

Date: 2020-09-02 05:40 am (UTC)Every cry's but to fake it. Man. It beats the "single tear" cry or "put Vicks VapoRub" cry method. Catherine Tate asking the Doctor to save someone in "The Fires of Pompeii" comes a close second on my best criers list.
Winter, spring, summer or fall.
All you have to do is call.
And I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.*stops singing*
It's lucky that Autumn has the alternative name, Fall.
This was before my brother and I were born. My mum got a case of frostbite. She was using the stove for heat. Didn't have a proper heater or clothing back then. This was when she was still depended on my dad. Indonesian weather is like a hot summer in Sydney for me.

Date: 2020-09-02 11:07 am (UTC)It's mostly fall in America and Canada. Over here we still say autumn *grins*
I guess it must get pretty cold in winter in Australia *stivers*

Date: 2020-09-03 07:24 am (UTC)Sometimes my life feels like a blooper reel. Oh wait, that's just life lessons.*sighs*
Fall is usually represented in songs only because its easier to rhyme. I like the word Autumn for a girls name.:)
Yeah. I'm more closer to the mountain side, unlike my last address. At least the weather is now more ideal for drying clothes.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-03 09:34 am (UTC)Fall is certainly easier to rhyme than Autumn, but Autumn still gets used in songs (Forever Autumn by Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues is a lovely but sad song).
It's nice as a girl's name, as long as she's born in that season.
Sounds nice! Can't dry clothes outside right now where I am, it's raining again.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-03 10:59 am (UTC)I looked it up and was surprised how many songs are related to Autumn. The same could be said for Summer, also a girls name.
The rain is only good for watering the garden, other plant life and tree's. Being a windy day might help with the drying of clothes. But that may also contribute to loose branches, leaves and dirt. That I have to sweep up. I guess there are pro's and con's to everything.*shrugs*

Date: 2020-09-03 07:33 pm (UTC)There are good and bad points to all kinds of weather.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-04 07:03 am (UTC)Indeed. Today, it's cloudy with rain. I try to consider the environmental impact of my household routine. I don't have a dryer.
Also another reason trees are important is that they reduce flooding when it rains. I wish they'd plant more trees in Indonesia.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-04 09:53 am (UTC)Trees are essential. I feel bad for cutting down some in my garden but they're self-set maples, way too big for where they're growing in the hedge. Their roots could damage house foundations.

Date: 2020-09-05 03:44 am (UTC)Piper: Wait, so everything is coming back to where it was lost? That means you lost your... oh! (Hundreds of socks fall out of the laundry room.)
Phoebe: Okay, so it's a big side effect.*refers to Lost and Found spell*
Piper: Those better be clean. If not, it's laundry day for you, missy.
I want to downsize my wardrobe, even though I've previously gave some to the charity clothing bin.
Yes, sometimes it's necessary cut down trees in your property for various reason's. In contrast to that, deforestation is an environmental threat.

Date: 2020-09-05 09:42 am (UTC)Over here we're campaigning to have more trees planted.

Josh: Actually I'm going to a Tree People meeting. We might get Marky Mark to plant a celebrity tree.
Cher: How fabulous. Getting Marky Mark to take time from his busy pants-dropping (modelling) schedule to plant trees.*sarcasm* Why don't you hire a gardener?(Movie: Clueless)
That's great! I hope it all works out. :)
