Summary: Just when Ryo thought he’d never have a family of his own…

A/N: Triple drabble.
By the time he reached his mid-twenties, Ryo had started comparing himself to his contemporaries. Most of the cops his age were already in steady relationships, some of them even talking about marriage and children, while here he was, still single, dating sporadically but still no closer to finding someone he could see himself settling down with.
Whenever anyone asked, he always said there’d be time for all that later; he was concentrating on his career, hoping to make detective in a year or two. Families cost money and a detective’s salary was higher than that of a uniformed officer. He was saving hard for the future, but he had no intention of spending the rest of his working life in a patrol car.
By the time he made detective he was almost twenty-eight, still single, still without kids. His career was going well, but his personal life had stalled. He began to wonder if he’d be one of those cops who was so completely married to the job there was no room in his life for a family.
Less than a week later he was a single father to a ten-year-old boy. Sometimes the only way to get what you wanted in life was to take a leap of faith; if he wanted a kid then why not take in one that nobody else wanted? It beat being alone, and anyway, he knew he could help Bikky, give the kid a better life than he might otherwise have.
Five years on everything is different. His son is growing fast, doing better in school, happy and well adjusted, while Ryo is happy too, sharing his life with the man he loves. Now when he compares himself to guys his age he feels content; he’s got everything he ever hoped for.
