Spoilers: Set after End of Days, while Jack is gone.
Summary: Owen is getting on Gwen’s nerves.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.




Gwen gave an exasperated sigh. “Give it a rest, Owen! You’ve been complaining non-stop since we started out! I don’t know what you’ve got to moan about; you’re driving. All I get to do is sit here listening to you going on and on. Can’t you shut up for five minutes? Put the radio on, or at the very least try talking to me instead of whining about every bloody thing!”


“I’m not whining!” Owen snapped. “And excuse me for complaining, but I was dragged out of bed in the middle of the night and forced to trek to the middle of nowhere looking for God knows what!”


“Oh, like you’re the only one! I was asleep too when the Rift alarm went off!” Gwen shot back. “Someone’s got to collect whatever came through.”


“So why didn’t you go by yourself?”


“Because it’s the middle of the night and the coordinates of the Rift spike are out in the country. Two sets of eyes are better than one.”


“Don’t see why it had to be me. I hate the countryside!”


“It’s our turn; Tosh and Ianto were on duty last night.”


“If Jack ever comes back I’m gonna kill him.”

Yeah. They just assumed Jack buggered off for abit. If only Jack had made a plan for just in case he went AWOL.

He should have, but I guess he never really thought it through, or didn't think he'd be gone for long.

IANTO: It's a Time Lock. The ultimate defence programme. Tosh was working on it. Never thought she finished it, but she did. The Hub's sealed in a time bubble. Nothing can get in.
GWEN: But that means we can't get out.
IANTO: Nope. Not without unlocking that Dalek. We're trapped inside. It's all up to Jack now.

Tosh protected the team, even in death.*proud of Tosh*

Jack wanted answers and to be fixed so it's understandable.

Tosh was awesome and amazing! She was a very special character and should have had a longer run on the show. She was so brave, right to the end =(

Yeah. I still remember the hurt look on Jack's face when he was left behind in "Parting Of The Ways".:(*tries not to project personal issues*

Jack leaving reminded me of when Buffy left town and the "Scooby Gang" had to pick up the slack because there was no other slayer around.

Tosh was underrated. She would have been a great companion for the Doctor.:)

I remember too, he didn't understand why his friends left him.

There are a lot of parallels between Buffy and Torchwood, I think RTD was a fan so he used story elements in his own way. Most of the time he didn't do it anywhere near a well as Joss Whedon.

Yeah. That moment could have made Jack turn bitter, but he still held onto hope that he'd bump into the Doctor again and get some answers.

I'm thinking you are right. I'd preferred if he had made Rose more like Buffy in maturity but I guess that would be asking too much.*shrugs*

That would have been an interesting dynamic. The Doctor goes back in time and prevents Tosh from being killed.*day dreaming*

I loved that Jack held on to hope.

RTD doesn't understand women, or maturity.

Yes, that would have bee cool. Maybe he could have rescued Owen too, then taken him to get un-zombied.

No wonder he got a spinoff. That's the usual route for other characters like that. Angel, Xena...*must think harder for other examples*

Yeah. At least he listen to Julie Gardner about bringing Donna back. Otherwise we would have had another "Rose type" in the character of Penny.

That sounds like an interesting fanfic. Tosh and Owen reunited.:)

I made a Torchwood/Chuck fic centred around Tosh. It's just a draft at the moment.

The BBC wanted an adult spinoff from Doctor Who with Jack as the lead character. It's just a shame they handed Rusty the reins since he was never interested in the team show, just wanted wall to wall Gwen.

Donna was a great character, we didn't need another Rose. Just shoes how one-note RTD's writing is.

Maybe I'll do something with the idea someday...

If only Torchwood could have been made under a different vision. Having insight explains why it was so Gwen Centric. Gwen was the heart of the show?*shrugs*

I'd rather had seen Tosh go on solo missions being awesome to be honest. They all had compassion.

Yeah. RTD believed that the companion has to be "desperately in love" with the Doctor. Heck, he still made a platonic love between Ten and Donna but at least it didn't compromise the story. Just imagine if Rose had met Penny instead of Donna?

It could have been amazing if someone else had been running it. Same cast aside from Gwen.

Tosh should have had solo adventures on the show, or with Ianto. All the cast got short-changed except for Gwen. They all should have had the chance to shine.

I'm just glad we got the Donna Ten friendship thing.

Yeah it was suppose to be a team effort. They did that on other shows like "Leverage".

Yes. The reason I liked series 4. I'm just sad about the finale.

Same here.

Even Bones has a good team feel with all the characters getting involvement in stories that affect them. (I'm watching Bones at the moment.)

It was such a sad ending.

Yeah. I got up to season 9 but lost track.

I didn't watch Leverage when it was originally on. Probably busy watching other shows like Bones.

Parker: They make everything go wibbly-wobbly.*refers to pain pills for her injured leg*

They like to make more obvious Doctor Who or other Sci-Fi show references.:)

Ditto on the sad departures from New Who.:(

I'm watching season 9 at the moment but I don't have the last three on DVD, which sucks. Might have to spend more than I like to get them. I've seen the last three on TV and there's a lot of drama.

To be honest, it's hard seeing more villains getting in the way of Booth and Brennan's family unit. Not to mention the rest of the team. I guess that's what's expected.

I managed just fine with Burn Notice but that only went for 8 seasons in comparison.

Yes, it can be hard, but most times things work out in the end. I don't think Bones went on too long, I think they ended it at the right point.

I didn't mean to imply Bones went on too long. In my opinion, it's when most of the main cast has left is when a show loses it's essence.

I missed out on one episode by mistake. I pretended it was a flashback episode.:)

Castle was going to continue without two main characters before it was cancelled. Getting an abrupt ending. I couldn't imagine the show going on without Kate and Lanie.

Castle definitely wouldn't have worked without Kate, but I hated the ending, it was so ambiguous and rushed and messy.

They should have just focused on recovering from the shooting. The "many years later with kids" could have been left to fanfic writers. Two endings instead of just one rap up is too confusing.

Exactly. They could have been shown visiting each other in hospital, one in bed and the other in a wheelchair. The rest could have been left to us.

Maybe a little revelation whilst tying up the loose ends. Finale's are suppose to be low-key because everything major has been resolved.

Oh well, at least they didn't end it with some memory or amnesia storyline It was done in earlier seasons.*thinks of Sarah Walker*

Which reminds me that I missed out on the part where the character of Haley was introduced on Castle. But I just went with it. I was abit lost there.*shrugs*

I did a draft fic based on the episode "Target" where Alexis got kidnapped. Since there really wasn't much aftermath shown onscreen.

She had a reoccurring role from series 8, in relation to Rick's missing timeframe. :D

Some say her "sisterly" bond with Alexis should have been with Kate. I always thought it odd that Alexis would call Kate "Beckett". I thought calling her by her first name Kate would be more suitable.*shrugs*

I haven't done much fic stuff recently. I remember being almost obsessive with it. I guess it comes with the territory to go through certain moods or phases.

Ah, I vaguely recall.

Even Castle called her Beckett most of the time.

It can happen like that. I've got into the habit of writing every day, haven't missed a day in at least 6 years.

Yeah. They all did except Martha who called her Katherine. But, I don't know. I guess I'm use to calling my parents friends by a more formal name.*shrugs*

I did like how their relationship was pretty straight forward. I think their personalities meshed well. Alexis seemed more nervous when her mother Meredith came to visit.

It's coming back to me. She was pretty cool.

I grew up calling my friends parents Mr and Mrs and their surname, then I had to get used to calling them by their first names as I grew up. I really liked Alexis.

I just keep a notebook with my word counts. I need it for getyourwordsout and Write Every Day so I can report my progress.

I was just glad she wasn't a baddie.

It was uncle or aunty when it was a family friend. If it was my mums friends from work, I could call them by their first name.

On other shows a character like Alexis (e.g book smarts) would act too privilege. The way they kept her on the show as she grew older was utilized quite well.:)

I'm thankful for my word count. That would have been handy when I was at school.

Yeah.

I had a lot of adopted aunts and uncles, mostly my parents' friends.

Alexis was so down to earth.

Despite saying I was cutting back on my writing, I already surpassed my getyourwordsout pledge. I guess I'm not too good at cutting back...

ALEXIS: Oh, I signed up for an escort service. I have to meet a client.

CASTLE: What? A what?*startles*

ALEXIS: (laughs) I just wanted to see if you were listening. I’m going to the library to study.

CASTLE: Not cool.

She inherited her fathers sense of humour.:)


Have you exceeded your monthly check ins? Editing in general is where I have issues. Spending too much time on it to stay in the word limit. I hope you find new strategies or get advice on how to overcome your situation.

I meant I intended to write less this year, but somehow I'm 30k ahead of where I was this time last year. Not that I mind.

When it comes to sticking to word count limits, I'm reasonably good but sometimes I end up with two versions of a story, one for the challenge community and a longer one for my journal. Drabbles often have to be edited down but most of the time I don't find that particularly difficult. I've had a lot of practice.
