Title: Silence
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Tenth Doctor.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 419: Pounce at
dw100.
Spoilers: Silence in the Library.
Summary: Not even a library should be this quiet.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
There’s an eerie feeling about the place, as if something unnameable might be lurking around every corner, just waiting to pounce on the unwary, and yet the whole place seems deserted, as silent as a tomb.
Okay, so it’s a library, and libraries are meant to be quiet, but there’s quiet and then there’s… nothing.
There’s not a soul about; the whole planet should be teeming with people, everyone loves a good book and there’s no greater collection of them in the universe, yet there are no footsteps and not a page rustles.
Where is everyone? Something’s seriously wrong here.
The End

Unless its after hours, it's just feels wrong to not have people studying or reading books in a library.

Date: 2020-07-09 12:56 pm (UTC)Yikes. I'd be freaked out too.
DONNA: But there's no one here. There's just books. I mean, it's not the books, is it? I mean, it can't be the books, can it? I mean, books can't be alive.
(They both reach slowly for a book. A voice makes them jump.)
NODE [OC]: Welcome.
DONNA: That came from here.
DOCTOR: Yeah.

Charlene:...I'll quit before I start telling you about my mother.*sensing her own rambling*
Phoebe Hallowell: No, it's okay. I've been studying here (the library), for so long it's nice to have someone to talk to. So what's your thesis about?
Too bad Charlene turns out to be a ghost.

Date: 2020-07-09 06:49 pm (UTC)Some ghosts can be good company.

Date: 2020-07-10 12:50 pm (UTC)I'm glad you don't have to do that part anymore.
My mum has many ghost experiences from when she worked in a hospital as a student nurse. Sometimes they keep to themselves.
One of them smiled at her, when they realised she could see them.
It was an interesting twist that Charlene could give closure for someone else.

Date: 2020-07-10 05:47 pm (UTC)Ghosts can be helpful sometimes I guess.

Yeah. I recall real life ghost story I saw on a TV show where they were warning a person of the faulty stairwell that led to the attic. By lying down at the end of the stairs and then disappearing.
The home owner was going to do laundry there and was scared until they realise what was going on.
Apparently it's not as straight forward as "Ghost Whisperer"

Date: 2020-07-11 10:15 am (UTC)I guess most ghosts can't speak so they have to show rather than tell.

Date: 2020-07-11 12:27 pm (UTC)Oh really? I better be on high alert if I want to work in a hospital.
I use to watch a local documentary show called "The Extraordinary". About paranormal and supernatural occurrences. Back in 1994. Gosh I don't know why my curiosity outweighed by reasoning for being spooked!:D
One episode was about American actor Telly Savalas encounter with a ghost that gave him a lift in their car. So some can talk. He found out later the real deal when he called the guys wife on the phone.

Date: 2020-07-12 12:04 pm (UTC)That must be a challenging for your friend. My mum is very nonplussed about them. But then she worked in a morgue.
The story is still up on YouTube. The wife was offended with the call because she thought Telly Savalas was playing a prank call on her.
How strange that a ghost can still drive a car. I seriously do not know the guidelines for what ghosts can or cannot do. In non fiction it varies as well.*shrugs*

Date: 2020-07-12 06:47 pm (UTC)I bet it would have upset her.
Strange that a ghost car can transport a living person.

Date: 2020-07-13 11:04 am (UTC)Oh dear. She is brave to do so. I hope she has a coping strategy. Otherwise that would be stressful. Making positive affirmations perhaps?
Indeed. I guess you never know what to expect from the supernatural.*shrugs*

Date: 2020-07-13 11:14 am (UTC)The supernatural is still very much unknown.

Date: 2020-07-16 11:05 am (UTC)That's good to know she's handling it.:)
Yeah. Very mysterious...
