Title: Newbie
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Owen, OC.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 611: Touch at
tw100.
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: Owen is stuck with the job of keeping the latest new recruit out of trouble.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
The problem with new recruits was that they didn’t know anything. They came in, all eager and excited, wide-eyed and full of wonder at the mysteries being revealed to them, and as grabby as toddlers, wanting to explore their new environment through every means at their disposal.
Naturally it was up to the more experienced members of the team to ensure the recruits’ own curiosity didn’t lead to them getting accidentally killed or maimed. What was the point of going to all the effort of training new personnel if they only lasted a week? It wasn’t cost-effective, and it was a nuisance having to go through the rigmarole of finding someone else to take their place.
“Don’t touch that!” Owen snapped, storming towards the latest newbie, annoyed at having to baby-sit this one on his first day because the rest of the team had gone out early to deal with a roving band of Weevils. They’d drawn straws to see who’d be left behind.
“Why not? It doesn’t look dangerous. Is it alien?”
“No, but trust me when I say if you put so much as a smudge on Ianto’s coffee machine he’ll make you wish you’d never been born!”
