A/N: Triple drabble.
This day had been a long time coming, and if anyone asked Dee, it was way overdue. The NYPD had finally lifted its restriction regarding relationships between work partners. Honestly, in Dee’s opinion it had been a ridiculous rule to start with.
The best and most effective working partnerships were between people who cared about each other and shared a close bond. Stick two people together who at best tolerated each other and there was no guarantee they’d back each other up when needed, while those with a strong connection could theoretically be used against each other even if they were just friends. May as well say a cop couldn’t be in a relationship with anyone, or have any family, because their loved ones could be used against them!
Well, no more. Now, while it wasn’t exactly encouraged, if you happened to fall in love with your partner that was fine. As long as you left any relationship issues at home and didn’t spend all your time at work making out, New York’s cops were free to love whoever they loved while still working with their lover if that was what they wanted.
It was freeing.
Now, at last, he and Ryo could give up the pretence of just sharing an apartment because it saved them both money and admit they were living together. Neither of them would be assigned a different partner, or get transferred to another precinct, and the same was true of all the other relationships between work partners.
“We should celebrate,” Dee murmured, slipping his arms around Ryo from behind. They were in the locker room so it was fine.
“Why?” Ryo asked. “All that’s changed is that now people know we’re together.”
“Yeah, but…” Dee started, then sighed. “Business as usual, huh?”
“Exactly!” Ryo smirked.
