Doctor Who Drabble: Inconvenient
Jun. 16th, 2020 06:25 pmTitle: Inconvenient
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Fourth Doctor.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 413: Break at
dw100.
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: Perhaps the Doctor relies on his sonic screwdriver a bit too much.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
The Doctor shook it again, harder this time, but it still didn’t work. He changed the setting and tried it again, to no avail. This could be a bit of a problem; it appeared to be broken. Maybe it had happened when he was thrown in here; his captors hadn’t been very gentle about it.
“How very inconvenient.”
He was locked in a perfectly ordinary cell with metal bars, something he should be able to escape from easily, under normal circumstances.
All he needed was his sonic screwdriver…
“Why do things always have to break at the worst possible times?”
The End

Amy: That is breaking and entering.
Eleventh Doctor: What did I break? Sonicking and entering. Totally different.
In "The Beast Below", Amy picked a lock with a hairpin. Lucky she had one in her nightie.
Bottom line: The Doctor should have a hairpin. I doubt hairpins were invented in Leela's era.*grins*
Maybe Romana or Sarah Jane had one? The mind boggle's.:)

Chandler: There has got to be a way!
Joey: Easy there Captain Kirk. Oh, do you have a bobby pin?
Chandler: Yeah. (Checks his hair.) Oh no wait, I’m not an nine-year-old girl.
Joey: Then why do you throw like one?
Chandler: Maybe Monica has a bobby pin.
Joey: Sure. "Monica."
I remember Sarah Walker picking a door lock on "Chuck".

Date: 2020-06-19 10:29 am (UTC)I liked when he was practicing to break into a car without the Odin alarm going off. The voice reminded me of my old house security alarm.:)
Hairgrips? We have hair grips over here too but the one's that could be used to "pick locks" are still called bobby pins. I have plenty of them in different colours and sizes. When I was younger, I would experiment. But these day's I use the standard hair clips because my hair is so thick and I can't be bothered.:D

Date: 2020-06-19 06:36 pm (UTC)I guess there are all kinds of names for similar things.
I wear my hair in a ponytail. It's very thin and fine, and completely straight, so thee's not much I can do with it.

Date: 2020-06-20 09:24 am (UTC)Yes. There are quite a few differences between American English, British English and Australian vocabulary.
I was never fond of letting all my hair down. It just get's in the way. Even when I got compliments from it in the past. We should appreciate what we have and leave it at that.:)

Date: 2020-06-20 06:28 pm (UTC)An amazing number really. It's a miracle the three counties understand each other at all.
When I was younger and my hair was thicker I used to wear it loose some of the time. Now it just annoys me.

Date: 2020-06-21 11:28 am (UTC)Yeah. It's funny how one saying in one country, can mean something entirely different in another. For example, a thong in America refers to a G-string. But in Australia, it's sandals. Watching TV from all three countries can help to pick up some of the lingo. It isn't just for some entertainment.:)
I guess as you get older, these things seem insignificant. I remember as a teenager I was obsessed with stying or dying my hair. Now I'd rather do more practical things.
One of my favourite memories as a little kid was when my mum brushed my hair before she went to work. I wasn't even out of bed yet. But my mum had the early shift, so I made sure not to mess it up before I went to school.:)

Date: 2020-06-21 02:37 pm (UTC)Suspenders hold trousers up in America, but stockings in England!
I'm growing old disgracefully. I have light hair so still no sigh of grey in it. Mum kept her natural hair colour into her late 60s.
I remember mum plaiting my hair into two pigtails for school.

I use to wear suspenders for my trousers as a little girl. Well, my mum dress me up that way. Then I went with using a belt because it was more practical/fashionable.
Wow. Mine isn't that noticeable amongst my black hair. I use to dye it, but now I can't be bothered. I sound so lazy. I won't do this, I won't do that...:D
Anyways. It's not a big deal when women get to a point where it's all grey. It's a natural part of life.:)
The term "silver fox" is suppose to be used for both men and women in this category. But I've only heard it being said for the former.*shrugs*

Date: 2020-06-24 09:36 am (UTC)See, that always confuses me when people talk about suspenders with trousers, it sounds so wrong, like why are they wearing stockings with their trousers? LOL!
It's not lazy at all. I think women who constantly try to hide their grey hair and stress over ever tiny wrinkle are the ones with the problem. People age. Accept it.
Yes, I'v only heard it used for me too. It's a sign of double standards. Men with silver hair are considered sex=y, women are considered past it.

Date: 2020-06-24 11:26 am (UTC)Suspenders and stockings sound so sexy. I've never done it.:D
It's fine if you want to feel like a change. But women shouldn't feel obligated to look a certain way to gain people's approval. Unless it's for an opinion.
*after discussing waxing for men*
Phoebe: Wow! Talking about high maintenance
Joey: Hey hey! You dye your hair!*self-conscious*
Phoebe: I'm a woman!
Joey: Arghhh! Double standards.
*walks off*
I use to call my friend a "silver fox" but not to his face.*only in my head*
Well, he use to say my hair was nice etc via text.
It wasn't a normal friendship.*shakes head*
Mostly there is a gender bias. Even in English terms. For example, a man is a "bachelor", while a woman is a "spinster". When both are single.

Date: 2020-06-25 09:57 am (UTC)I used to prefer stockings to tights, but many suspender belts are so lacy that they're scratchy and uncomfortable to wear. They're definitely more sexy than tights though.
True, women shouldn't be compelled to look a certain way. I'll never dye my hair. If people don't like the way I look then that's their problem, not mine.
Yes, with the inference that the man chooses to be single while the woman can't find a husband. *rolls eyes*

Date: 2020-06-26 11:44 am (UTC)Lace is aesthetically pleasing but if cheap, the material kind will itch. I use to wear lacy tops.
I'm not going to burn my bra but yeah. Good for you.*thinks of feminist movement*
Stupid biases. The term "Ms" was invented for women who is divorced. She doesn't necessarily go back to the term "Miss".
Here was I thinking it was so women could have privacy over their status of being single or not. The things I've only just learnt. Men don't have to worry about these things.*hands up in defeat*

Date: 2020-06-27 09:47 am (UTC)Lace can look pretty but I can't help thinking it was designed by men to titillate men, just like a lot of
women's clothes, with no thought given to whether or not it would be comfortable to wear. Women are supposed to suffer to look 'attractive'. I'd rather be warm and comfortable than what many men see as attractive.
I don't have to burn mine, I've never really needed one although I did wear one throughout my teens it was more a nuisance than a help thanks to my lack of anything resembling a womanly figure. I'm happy with the way I am though.
I didn't know that either, but it doesn't surprise me. Men like to know a woman's marital status. Real equality is still a long way away.

Life is also too short, to wear uncomfortable clothing. Sometimes guys are attracted to women when they wear modest clothing. So it's like you can't do anything about that.*shrugs*
In the fictional world, women sometimes pretend to be married by wearing a fake wedding ring. So they don't get unwanted attention. I wonder if that's a real life thing.*ponders*
no subject
Date: 2020-06-30 09:45 am (UTC)I'd bet it is, but wedding rings don't put all men off because some men are just jerks.

I've leaned from my past mistakes. The more self-aware you are, the less others will bother you.:)
