Sinkholes were crazy things Dee had seen on the news, massive holes that suddenly opened in the ground, swallowing traffic, buildings, even people. It was scary stuff; you could be just driving along the road one day, a road you’d driven countless times before, and find yourself unexpectedly sinking into what should have been solid ground as a gaping hole opened up beneath you.

Up until this moment, Dee had always comforted himself with the thought that the chances of getting sucked down into the depths of the earth like that were infinitesimal, probably billions to one against, only now it was actually happening!

He let out a yell, hands and feet scrabbling as he tried to keep from being dragged to his doom, but it was no use; everything he got hold of just crumbled away and then he was falling. He hit the bottom feet first, automatically rolling to absorb the impact.

“Dee? Are you okay?” Ryo’s worried face peered down at him from a few feet above.

“Yeah, just a few bruises. I’ll live”

“I told you to watch where you’re walking. This whole ridge is riddled with caves.”

“Yeah, think I just found one,” Dee grumbled.
