Disclaimer: I don’t own BTVS, or the characters. They belong to Joss Whedon.
A/N: Quadruple drabble.
Once upon a time, centuries ago in a small Scandinavian village, back when she was human the first time, and before she ever met D’Hoffryn, Anya had loved rabbits. They’d been so cute and appealing with their furry bodies and long ears, their twitchy noses and the way they lolloped about. Who could possibly not love them the way she did? And they bred so fast that all she had to do was feed them and she soon had more.
So many rabbits, more than she’d know what to do with, so instead of selling them as she’d originally intended she’d taken to giving them away as gifts. What was wrong with that? They made people happy. She and Olaf could have had a wonderful life raising rabbits and giving them away.
But Olaf hadn’t been satisfied, not with her and not with her rabbits. He couldn’t have been otherwise he wouldn’t have cheated on her, breaking her heart. Seeking revenge by turning him into a troll had led to her D’Hoffryn turning her into a vengeance demon, and that in turn had led to this. Here she was, a human teenager in Sunnydale, and being human was no easier than it had been the first time around!
She didn’t know how to behave and she didn’t fit in; she was like one of those square pegs people tried to fit into round holes, although she didn’t understand why anyone would try to do that because it should be obvious it wouldn’t work. Humans were just so complicated and weird. They didn’t make sense, and now she was one herself!
Anyway, it was obviously all the bunnies’ fault, the horrible, hoppy little things. If they hadn’t seduced her into surrounding herself with them, if she’d paid more attention to Olaf than to her rabbits, if her love for them hadn’t made her seem odd to the people in her village, then maybe Olaf wouldn’t have cheated on her and they would have had the happy life together she’d imagined. She would’ve never had any reason to become a vengeance demon, and she wouldn’t be trapped here now as a high school student, an outsider again just as she’d been back in her village. Bunnies were to blame for everything! They were evil!
Sure, people could laugh at her for her ‘irrational’ fear, but they didn’t understand. Rabbits ruined her life.

Thank you!

Date: 2020-06-01 04:19 am (UTC)The only thing I ever saw that was more downright ridiculously silly & creepy concerning one of the Black Beasts; was the time one of them appeared on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson & sang "There's a Light (Over at the Frankenstein Place)" in Falsetto.
Go to YouTube Craig Ferguson Rocky Horror Halloween 2011 Opener to watch this silly thing.

Two images of the madness that was The Late Late Show
Date: 2020-06-02 04:36 am (UTC)That one, and the show intro for the week long trip to Glasgow Scotland.
Weirdly creepy with much quirky humor.
The 'Craig Ferguson Scotland Intro' is worth it to watch Ferguson sing punk rock.
Song title is:

Monica: I thought he'd love it! His favourite book was The Velveteen Rabbit.
Chandler: That rabbit was brown and white!
Monica: It was a pink bunny or no bunny at all.
Chandler: No bunny at all! ALWAYS NO BUNNY AT ALL!
I'm sorry that I quote from another fandom but I always associate Anya's fear of bunnies with the above moment.:)
BTW: Rabbits are very low-maintence pets. I just wish they didn't know how to dig under fences to escape the backyard.*sighs*

Date: 2020-06-01 06:41 pm (UTC)Oh no they're not! My rabbit Misty needed dental surgery so many times I spent a fortune on him. He was a fussy eater having been taken from hos mother too young, but he was a sweetie, a great big silly softy.
Thank you!

Date: 2020-06-02 09:29 am (UTC)I’m sorry. I should correct myself. From my experience, my brother’s then girlfriend's rabbit was less hard to look after. Although she wouldn't eat regular lettuce, only cos lettuce. But at the same time, didn't mind eating grass if her assortment of vegetables were running low.
As opposed to my first cat who got a permanent leg injury from a fight with another cat. My second cat was more streetwise but got lost for a few weeks. I think it depends on the temperament and environment that the pet is under.

Date: 2020-06-02 09:48 am (UTC)Rabbits shouldn't really be given lettuce anyway (I've had 5 rabbits over the years). Grass is better for them, and hay, cabbage, carrots, dandelions. Misty was just a really fussy eater, but one of my other rabbits, Holly, needed dental surgery too. Rabbit teeth never stop growing and if they're not properly worn down by their food they can overgrow and cause abscesses in the rabbit's tiny mouth. =(
One of our cats vanished for a couple of weeks. Returned home very thin and with a broken tail that never healed, just dragged behind her for the rest of her life. The vet decided against amputating it for some reason. She lived for many years like that though.

ANYA: Nobody will tell me.
WILLOW: Because it's not okay for you to be asking these things!
ANYA: (desperate) But I don't understand!
Anya's grief over Joyce's death really hit home.:(
Well, that's an interesting about the lettuce. I guess she knew what was best for her. Here was I thinking that rabbits were just easy to clean after.*hugs in regards to your poor rabbit Holly*
One of my high school friends had two rabbits that got seriously sick and had to be put down. I heard that the life span can vary. I'd be too scared to lose another pet if they didn't live long. I had both of my cats for almost 13 years.

Date: 2020-06-03 09:18 am (UTC)Smart rabbit! I wish Misty had been smart enough to accept that hay and grass are food, but he wouldn't eat either, which is why he had dental surgery so often. He lived eight and a half years despite that though, but ten he got very sick an d I had to have him put down. The vet tried so hard but in the end there was nothing he could do. I won't be having another rabbit.

I was amazed at the way she ate through a whole tomato, let alone a carrot. It's never easy looking after a sick animal. But I will cherish the fun times.

Date: 2020-06-05 08:52 am (UTC)Aww! I just saw the pic. I guess the word Misty is a unisex name.*looked up baby names.
For some reason I think it would be ideal for a cowboy. The random images that pop into my head.:)

Date: 2020-06-05 10:16 am (UTC)Some things have to be unisex, especially when it comes to pet names.
Like with Candy on Bonanza. He was my favourite character on that show. (Cowboys are a weakness of mine, maybe that's partly why I'm a big country music fan).

Date: 2020-06-06 10:27 am (UTC)Most rabbits are usually named "Snowball" if they have white fur all over.:)
My mum use to watch Bonanza. I saw some reruns a couple of years ago.
Eleventh Doctor: I wear a Stetson now. Stetson's are cool.
Before the Doctor had a hat fetish. I saw Stetson's on a local series called "McLeod's Daughter's. Which was based on a farm.

Date: 2020-06-06 05:50 pm (UTC)My first rabbit when I was maybe 4 or 5 was called Snowy. He was an albino, white with pink eyes.
I grew up watching westerns and sci-fi, and listening to country music. I still love all three.
Listening to Jimmy Buffett tonight though. I always love when he shows up on Hawaii 5-0 *grins*

Date: 2020-06-08 09:02 am (UTC)I always wanted a cat ever since I could remember. But I think it was better as an adult because I would find it too distressing when they passed away as a kid.:(
You sound like me when I use to watch "Due South" for Paul Gross.;)
