Doctor Who Drabble: Changes

Summary: The Doctor may be used to regeneration, but this is new.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.




The Doctor studies the face reflected in the mirror; it’s changed, unfamiliar, new, female, which is odd. The craggy face and grey hair are gone; this body is younger, shorter, and the wrong shape.


Being a Time Lord means becoming accustomed to changing face, body, even temperament and personality; that’s what regeneration does. Old body dying? Have a new one.


On one level, the changes aren’t a surprise, only the Doctor had never changed gender before to his… her knowledge. Always knew it was possible, but…


So here she is, new body, new parts, same old Doctor.


Still not ginger.

There must be something special in Time Lord history about being ginger. (Maybe ginger Time Lords have Magic, or are able to sexually reproduce?)
It could be a reference to Alan Dean Foster's Flinx series.
And either it's the aesthetics about being "naturally" ginger where one's skin tone, & eyes go with the hair or The Doctor feels that it's cheating to use dye.

He does seem desperate to become ginger, and definitely wants to do so naturally. Maybe Time Lords can't dye their hair, might be allergic to it.

Must dig out the Flinx series, I've got them all but for some reason I've only ever read the first one even though I've read practically everything else of Foster's.
