Summary: The battle is over, all that’s left is to clean up the scene.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

A/N: I've decided to post the last two at the same time, so the link at the end leads to the final part.

Cleanup is a subdued affair. Death should never be taken lightly, not even when it’s meted out in defence of the planet.

The invaders’ remains will have to be burned. Creatures with an affinity for ice are not something Torchwood wants in their cryo freezers. They’re almost certainly dead, but it’s still a chance none of the team are willing to take.

Besides, there’s not all that much left anyway. Ice melts, and beneath that protective covering they were smaller than they’d appeared. Ianto might have felt sorry for them, had he not seen how much they’d enjoyed Jack’s suffering.

So the nasty little aliens were pretending to be big nasty aliens. Well, they got the nasty part right, and I agree, the cryo freezers are definitely not a good idea.

Who knows if they could revive through freezing? Best not to take chances, especially since fire works so well against them.

It's their natural form I duppose, coming as they do from an ice world. Their outer coating of ice protects them from the elements and probably from other inhabitants of their world. But outward appearances can deceive.

On their home planet, the outer coating no doubt protects them from the elements. Coming through the Rift, they brought the icy conditions of their homeworld with them, so they stayed frozen on the outside. It probably restricted their movements and kept them contained to a smallish area, which was good. If they'd gone wandering they could have caused devastation.

I agree, cryo freezers are not a good idea. If any part of them was left alive (and do you ever really know with aliens?), those freezers might actually help them!

Incinerator it is, then! You can't be too careful with such malicious beings.

Precisely! Once they're completely burned to ash they should be rendered incapable of causing harm. One should never take chances with unfamiliar alien biology.

If proof was needed that Ianto is the true heart of Torchwood this story proves it. The ability to feel compassion for those that hurt our loved and ourselves is the true mark of a compassionate creature.

True, and Ianto never takes a life lightly, it pains him to do so even when he knows it's a necessary evil. But sometimes there is no other option.
