Standing there in the dressing room, Ryo could feel his face heating up with embarrassment and once again cursed the fact that he blushed so easily. He was a grown man, not a teenage boy; he shouldn’t be turning red just at the sight of skimpily clad women. It wasn’t like he was attracted to them or anything; Dee had more than proved to their mutual satisfaction where Ryo’s interests really lay in that respect. It was just the principle of the thing.

Dee appeared unfazed at being surrounded by practically naked strippers. Ryo found himself wishing he could be as coolly professional as his partner, questioning the girls about their deceased colleague as if their state of undress didn’t bother him in the slightest. He doubted that was entirely true, because Dee was bi and still found women physically attractive even though he was in a committed relationship with a man; he no doubt found the sight physically arousing although he never let it show.

‘And here I am, unable to even look at them without blushing,’ Ryo thought, annoyed with himself. It wasn’t as if he’d never seen women in their underwear before. He’d had girlfriends.

The girls themselves weren’t showing any signs of embarrassment either. Why would they? Taking their clothes off was how they made a living.

‘It’s just me; they must think I’m some kind of prude. They’re probably all laughing at me.’

“You’re nice,” the girl he was questioning said, out of the blue. “Most guys just stare at us like we’re objects rather than people, but you don’t.” She slipped into a robe. “You keep your eyes on our faces, allow us to hold on to a little bit of dignity. It makes a welcome change.

“We both have our jobs to do.”
