Summary: Owen is a specialist; his knowledge of anything outside his sphere of expertise, however, is lacking.

A/N: Double drabble.




Owen knows the human body inside out; what all the parts are called, how they work, what can go wrong with them, and where possible, how to fix things when they go wrong. He can cure all kinds of maladies, stitch wounds, set broken bones, even remove unnecessary bits that are causing problems; that’s what the long years of training were all about, and he knows he’s good at what he does. All he’s ever wanted is to heal people.


Working for Torchwood, he now knows a great deal about alien anatomy and physiology as well, perhaps more than any living human. He’s treated patients of more than twenty different alien species, mostly sentient but a few animals too. There’s a lot more for him to learn about, but he’s equal to the task.


This, however, is beyond him.


“So what’s wrong?” Ianto asks.


“How should I know? It made a funny clunking noise and stopped.”


“Right, I’d best take a look see under the bonnet. Open her up for me?”


“Uh… how?”


“It’s your car; don’t you know?”


“I’ve only had it a few weeks!”


Human bodies are one thing, but hand Owen a mechanical problem and he’s lost.

Owen knows the skills he has and trusts Ianto when thing go wrong.He has a well hidden soft streak, as when he agonised over the murder of the girl in Ghost Machine
