Title: Return Of Coat
Author: [livejournal.com profile] badly_knitted
Characters: Ianto, Jack, Coat.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 584: Coat at [livejournal.com profile] tw100.
Spoilers: Children of Earth.
Summary: What happened to Coat when the Hub blew up?
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.

Clearing the Hub of rubble, the result of the bomb planted in Jack’s stomach, Ianto found a tattered blue-grey sleeve and his heart sank. With everything that had happened since that day, trying to survive and defeat the 456, he’d forgotten all about Coat. Now he felt terrible.

Jack had the replacement Ianto had found for him in London, but it wasn’t the same; it was just an ordinary, everyday WWII era greatcoat, not the semi-sentient, animate garment that had shared Jack’s adventures for so long. Was this ragged piece of cloth all that remained of the brave Hero Coat? Had it given its life for its Captain?

Setting the sleeve aside, Ianto kept digging, unearthing more fragments, a few stray buttons, an epaulet, a lapel, the other sleeve. It was a good thing Jack was elsewhere; it would break his heart seeing Coat like this.

Ianto didn’t tell Jack, but he did his best to piece Coat back together, hidden from sight in the archives. It might not work, but he had to try.

It took weeks, but gradually Coat’s fibres knitted together, became whole.

The happy reunion was worth all his efforts.

Nothing could separate Coat and Captain.

The End
