A/N: Double drabble and a half, 250 words.




The strong arms around him, holding him close, made him feel safe, protected, loved. There’d been other lovers, plenty of them, but in almost every case Dee had been the one doing the holding, at least with those who liked to be held. Some didn’t; different strokes for different folks, and that was fine. Not everyone was a snuggler.


Ryo was though, and Dee knew his baby loved to be held, but unlike most of Dee’s previous lovers he wasn’t greedy. He always seemed to sense when Dee needed the comfort of arms around him, or maybe it was because they knew each other so well.


Working together meant each of them knew when the other was having a bad day and could use some TLC. Sometimes a case would hit home with both of them equally hard and they’d fall into bed together, desperate to feel alive, to chase away the horrors of the things they saw at work. Times like that, they’d cling together after making love, like they were each other’s life raft, their hearts beating together, united, shoring up each other’s defences.


This was different though. Dee had woken from a weird nightmare to find Ryo’s arms around him, his voice softly murmuring reassurance.


“Just a bad dream, Dee. Everything’s fine.”


Dee snuggled closer, feeling the tension and panic drain out of him as he breathed in his lover’s familiar scent.


“Yeah, as long as you’re here everything’s better than fine.”


Ryo would keep him safe.
