Summary: Jack contemplates his broken vortex manipulator.

A/N: A second fill for the square Leather/Firmament

The strap was old, its leather well worn and flexible where once it had been stiff and new, scuffed where it used to be shiny.

Back in his Time Agency days, and even after he turned rogue, it had been his ticket to adventure, all of time and space accessible at the touch of a few buttons. But not anymore; its circuits had burned out making the jump to Earth, leaving him marooned here, condemned to spending eternity in one place.

All he could do was stare at the heavens and pray that his Doctor would return for him soon.

Yeah, though I doubt even another Time Agent could fully understand because Jack's lifespan is going to be measured in millennia, when he uses the word 'eternity' it's not an exaggeration.

Waiting for 100+ years must have been so hard - especially since he hadn't lived for that long ever before.

Yeah, it must have been the most difficult time of his life, suddenly finding himself not just stranded, but immortal and stuck on earth 100+ years earlier than he'd planned, knowing he would have to wait over a century for the Doctor.

It didn't really get any better when the Doctor DID eventually showe up either.

Reading this I couldn't help but wonder why Jack would give up his vortex manipulator then I knew it was because he and Ianto and Doctor Donna(I love Donna almost as much as Tosh) are traveling together in the boys Tardis.
