Summary: The Boeshane Peninsula was peaceful until the raiders came.

A/N: Double drabble.
The Boeshane Peninsula was a peaceful place, a small community numbering less than three thousand people. The inhabitants were mostly self-sufficient, producing enough food for their own needs, with some left over for trading, but they were far from wealthy. It didn’t bother them; they’d come to this planet for the freedom it offered them to live however they chose. They farmed, made handcrafted items that brought in some extra money, and raised their families. It was a good life.
Why the raiders targeted their small colony, none of them ever knew. Perhaps it was merely because they were defenceless, and therefore seen as easy targets, but one day, out of the blue, the ships came, streaking overhead, gunning some people down and abducting others.
After that first time they came again, and again, their attacks months, even a year or more, apart. The colonists tried arming themselves and fighting back, but that only made the raiders angry. Even more people died that time.
Jack was twelve, Grey only half that, when the raiders attacked their village. As always, there was no warning, but when they left Grey was gone, their father was dead, and Jack’s life was changed forever.
