Double Drabble: Aching

Summary: Getting Lisa installed in the Hub was backbreaking work.

A/N: Double drabble.




Ianto ached all over, every muscle and sinew felt stretched to breaking point, but he’d done it; the life support unit was set up in an unused room deep in the bowels of the Hub, and Lisa was resting as comfortably as she was currently able to. The drugs he’d given her had kept her in a deep sleep during the move, unaware of what was happening; at least he’d been able to spare her that much.


Looking at her he felt a twinge of resentment. All the effort he’d just put in, the pulled muscles, the scrapes and the bruises, and he couldn’t expect so much as a thank you. When she woke up he could tell her what he’d done, but what would be the point?


Back when they’d moved in together she’d been right there helping, and afterwards she’d pushed him face down on the bed, massaging his tense and aching muscles. He’d get no such relief now; the best he could hope for was a hot shower.


He shook his head, annoyed with himself; what right did he have to wallow in self-pity when the woman he loved was in constant agony? His comfort was unimportant.

I often wonder how much was left of Lisa. I hope she didn't really know, that it was the cyberman who was using her, terrible though it was, I remember Yvonne retained something of herself. "I have done my duty for Queen and country" as she fought back. Ianto didn't know either, he did his best, clinging to hope as long as he could.

I hope so too. Maybe the cyberconsciousness was lurking in the background, undetected by her until it was strong enough to take over. Really there's no way to be sure, which is why it's such an interesting episode to play with.
