Doctor Who Drabble: TARDIS Knows Best

Title: TARDIS Knows Best

Summary: The Doctor isn’t going to win this argument.

“What’s the matter with you?” the Doctor grumbled, scowling at the central console. “Who’s in charge around here?”


He thumped one of the control panels, kicked the base of the console, flicked switches and spun dials, to no avail; the TARDIS refused to budge.


“We’re going to Urphon!” the Doctor insisted, giving the console another kick.


The TARDIS hummed placidly.


Fuming at his sentient ship’s defiance, the Doctor folded his arms over his chest, leather jacket creaking. “I don’t want to go to earth! I say where we go, not you!”


Which was how the Doctor wound up in London…

LOL! I'm a walking computer disaster, it's taken me forever to learn how to do things on her and I still have a lot to learn, but I can do the things I need to do.

From what I've heard, most IT 'experts' don't know what they're doing either, lol!

It's stereotyping - you're young so you must be good with computers... I'm old and I can't work a mobile phone =/

Well okay! I go to friends/acquaintances to rule out anything I'm doing wrong as a last resort. :D

There are some people that I had wish that I meet online. Assuming someone is of a certain age limits people way of treating people fairly. I'm sure you know that.:)

I can be introverted but that doesn't mean that I will be a timid mouse. Which is what some people assume that I 'am. Boy do they get a shock when I have an opinion that isn't in their favour.*shakes head*

Quiet and timid are two very different things. Quiet people can be loud when they have something to say.

I always looked younger than I was growing up. Not so much now, I'm getting wrinkles, but that's fine. I intend to grow old disgracefully ;)

Well I wish it was common knowledge. I've always had that problem from certain people.

I feel the effects of aging everytime I look in the mirror or when my body aches. Aging gracefully is part of the wisdom you carry with it.:)

My chronic pain pales in comparison. Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic disease that I hear of often as well. I feel bad if I'm in bed for just one day. It must take a lot of patience and bravery to handle living like that. I can't find the right words to describe it.:(

Staying in bed is something I just can't do, especially in the winter with the fire going. I'd be in worse pain if I tried. I know someone with MS and she's in a wheelchair so that is REALLY tough. I'm nowhere near that bad, but my joints hurt a lot, especially my hips.

I use to push my dad in a wheelchair because he couldn't handle a walking stick.

Sometimes I wish I was more physically fit to assist the elderly. I've been doing volunteer work and I have to be careful not to overdo it.

We've got to do our best with what we've got. That starts with being mentally strong.*sighs*

I had to have carers come in every day to help mum wash and dress because she weighed more than me and I just couldn't manage. They helped with other things too, even shovelled coal for me when I cracked a rib.

I always have to be careful not to overdo things. I have to stop and sit down for a bit.

We can only do what we can do.

I ended up assisting my father to the bathroom while protecting his modesty. My brother would help with the physical stuff. We were considering part-time age care but my dad passed away just before making the final decision.

In a way that was fortunate, because it's no fun having strangers letting themselves into your house ever day, even if most were very nice people. It made me uncomfortable.

I can only imagine. My family were trying to avoid that. I remember a social worker was assigned to my dad's case when he runaway and they brought in this nurse who didn't exactly have good people skills. It made me lose faith in the competence of the age care system. It made me very upset that day.:(

Yes, I had real problems with one of the carers who would walk into my room without invitation and kept doing things I specifically told her not to do. I have OCD and various anxiety issues and she kept upsetting me so badly I couldn't cope.

She didn't sound accommodating. Especially if you tried to reason with her. Some people are oblivious to other peoples needs. The counsellor I saw had a psychology degree but she wasn't exactly patient with me. Sure I was more sensitive that time but I don't recall her giving me much copying strategies.:(

When I got upset she sapped at me to stop being a drama queen. That didn't help.

Most of the other cares were much nicer.

Some counsellors are bad at their jobs. =(

I'm sorry to hear about that. When it comes down to it, you have to persevere it. Just be glad that you are not like that. Well, at least it was just one of them.

I guess knowing something is more easier than actually implementing it for some people. Otherwise some people need to be re-trained or consider a career change.

Thanks. I think she was in the wrong job. Most of the regular carers were nicer, but it was still hard having people let themselves in to my home.

Yeah, it's the whole privacy thing.

Also, I think you have to have a good friendship even with roommates to feel comfortable and secure of your property.

A friend of mine moved back home because she was more comfortable with her family.

There's that too, always feeling you need to watch people like a hawk. Mum sometimes wasn't with it. I'm sure none of the carers stole anything, but the ones who only came once or twice, there were always some doubts about trustworthiness.

I think I know what you mean. Any situation where you have to monitor someone or something can get stressful. We all need peace of mind. Then you are on high alert that it becomes a habit so when the situation changes, it's also hard to just relax. Well, that's my take on it.

This is when having a cat to hug would help me. I have to rely on other coping strategies.
