Title: Slip Up
Fandom: FAKE
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Ryo, Berkeley Rose, Dee.
Rating: PG
Setting: After Vol. 7.
Summary: Slippery surfaces can cause all kinds of problems
Written Using: The tw100 prompt ‘Slip’.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Triple drabble.
Dee’s nasty accident of a few months previously, when he’d fractured his coccyx slipping on a wet floor at the hospital, sprang to mind the moment Ryo saw the janitor and his assistant busily mopping the 27th Precinct’s foyer. With the torrential downpours of the last few days the floors were constantly a maze of puddles and wet footprints; trying to keep them dry had to be a never-ending, not to mention thankless, task.
Sensibly skirting the wettest areas, Ryo paid careful attention to where he was putting his feet, determined to avoid accidental injury, and yet despite his care he still managed to slip, one foot suddenly skidding out from beneath him just as he was taking a step, pitching him forward…
…Only to be deftly caught by Commissioner Berkeley Rose.
“Careful, Detective; can’t have you damaging yourself, can we?” Amused blue eyes twinkled behind Rose’s spectacles. Ryo felt his face heating up with embarrassment.
Naturally that had to be the exact moment Dee came down the stairs and saw them. Why couldn’t he have arrived thirty seconds earlier?
“Thank you, Sir. Uh, you can let go now.”
“Are you sure?” Rose asked smoothly.
“Quite sure, thank you.”
Released, Ryo hastily straightened his clothing. Dee was scowling at him.
“I come downstairs and find my partner in the arms of another man…” he started.
“It wasn’t what it looked like; I slipped on the wet floor and Commissioner Rose just happened to be there.”
“Just happened to be there?” Dee repeated. “Bastard must’ve been lurkin’ in the stairwell for ages waitin’ for you to get in, just in the hopes of havin’ you fall into his arms. I’d have beaten him to it otherwise.”
“For the record, I’d far rather fall into your arms,” Ryo admitted.
“Good to know.”
