Title: Common Ground
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Jack, Owen, Team, OC.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 562: Common at
tw100.
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: Owen’s the last person anyone would have expected to prevent a major diplomatic incident.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
The latest alien to be sucked through the Rift had been decidedly unhappy when Torchwood had located him, demanding to know why he’d been abducted, which was an understandable assumption on his part since he was quite high up in his planet’s government.
Jack had done his best to smooth the Larghan’s ruffled feathers, but despite his explanation that the Rift was not under Torchwood’s control and that Minister Pevril had not been deliberately targeted, the bird-like alien would not be mollified, hinting at dire consequences for humanity if he wasn’t returned to his home-world immediately. Things were not looking good for earth.
To everyone’s amazement, it was Owen who saved the day, and possibly the entire planet. It turned out that Pevril was a keen horticulturist, and the opportunity to study the plants in Owen’s hothouse proved irresistible. While Jack and Tosh worked on a way to send their inadvertent visitor home, Owen and his new friend spent hours among the alien plants discussing fertilisers, growth lamps, and the relative merits of various propagation methods.
“There’s a lesson in this for all of us,” Jack commented. “If two such different people can find common ground, then anything is possible.”
