Title: Appendages
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 323: Judgement at
dw100.
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: Martha isn’t too happy about the strange creature she’s just met.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
“Don’t judge a person by the appendages,” the Doctor told Martha firmly. “Not everyone has two arms, two legs, and one head, you know, in fact most races don’t. On some planets this shape,” he gestured from Martha to himself and back again, “would be completely impractical. There’s nothing wrong with having three heads and too many tentacles to count. It’s that kind of prejudgement about others that keeps getting you humans into trouble.”
“It’s not the shape that bothers me,” Martha replied. “It’s the fact that it’s trying to pull my arms off!”
“Oh, that. Just a minor misunderstanding!”

Date: 2019-08-29 10:56 am (UTC)I've got loads of books on wildlife and gardening. I look up the things I see in the garden. We have bush crickets, I've just discovered. They're wonderful!
I don't enjoy the sad stuff but I watch it all. Animals usually only kill for food, unlike humans.
I have some really nasty bites at the moment. My fault because I went outside in a sleeveless t-shirt one day when it was hot and got bitten all over my arms.

Date: 2019-09-10 11:23 am (UTC)Most of my books are on psychology, cooking and business studies. I actually want to declutter though. Less to dust.:)
I'm in a case of denial. When I know something bad is gonna happen, I switched the channel or leave if it's my mum watching it. Poor animals.:(
I always wear long sleeve tops outside to protect my skin from the sun as well as nasty insect bites. It's a small price to pay for a temporary nuisance such as mosquitoes.*shrugs*

Date: 2019-09-10 07:09 pm (UTC)Not my kind of thing, lol! I've got the gardening and animal stuff, paranormal, mythology, crafts, and lots of novels. Lots of dust too. ;)
It can be hard to watch =(
I usually do, but I was in the shade and it was a really hot day, so... I got bit. Now I've got another on my face =(

Date: 2019-09-11 10:27 am (UTC)It's because of my TAFE studies that I have business/hospitality, cooking books etc. Psychology was something I hope would help me with my anxiety issues that I had in the past.
I wanted to be a counselor at one stage. Then I realized that I do good deeds in other ways that are unofficial.
I spend time looking at cute animal videos on YouTube. I miss having a pet. I miss my cats!:(
Oh no! I think mosquitoes are attracted to your blood. It depends on your diet. I heard bittermelon helps. The alternative is a face mask. o_0
Mosquitoes are so annoying!

Date: 2019-09-11 06:34 pm (UTC)It's necessary to have the right books for whatever you're studying. Some of my books are from my gardening course.
Counsellors have to deal with a lot of additional stress. I couldn't do it.
Cute animal vids are good =)
I'm on antihistamines so the bites on my face don't itch too much.

Date: 2019-09-14 11:07 am (UTC)I'd rather visit a garden instead of receiving flowers if I had the choice.
Books, specifically small ones have gotten me through waiting times at the doctors or on a plane.:)
I think counseling is not a profession I'd want to do. I believe some get desensitized in the system. They get paid to help guide people through their psychological problems.
Helping someone with your free time is an act of a good deed. I can only speak from my experience of going to a counselor and trying to be a mentor myself.
However, having a degree helps you get recognized for credibility. Authorities will take you seriously. I believe a support system all round is the most effective way of dealing with people's emotional issues.
Having knowledge or a skillset is always handy to have. No matter how its being used.
I just saw a video of a mother otter floating on its back with the baby on her tummy. Too cute.:)
I hope you feel better soon.*hugs*

Date: 2019-09-14 08:58 pm (UTC)I prefer gardens too. The flowers last longer on the plant than when they're cut.. Leave them long enough and they'll set seed for the next year =D
I always take a book to appointments. Reading calms me. I have three books on the go right now =)
Me neither, I have too many problems of my own, I don't think I'd be much help to anyone else, although I admire anyone who accepts counselling as their vocation. Such people are badly needed.
Knowledge is definitely always useful to have. You never know when you might be able to use what you've learned. Degrees are also great to have, but some of us don't have the perseverance to earn one. They take a lot of work.
Awww! Sounds cute!
Still feeling rough but battling on.

Date: 2019-09-16 08:33 am (UTC)Juggling three books to read simultaneously sounds like a challenge. I would need to pace myself to get into the zone so to speak.
Exactly! I went to TAFE to get over my social phobia. But eventually I got reminded of the conflicts that caused my anxiety.
I tried to preserve until I finished my studies. In the end, I tried not to take things personally.
There is only so much you can do for someone. They have to do the rest. I felt that I was being used as an emotional buffer and not even getting recognized for it.:(
Adorable animal videos help keep me sane.:)
I'm aways here for virtual hugs.*hug continues*

Date: 2019-09-16 10:20 am (UTC)I need variety, in case I'm not in the mood for one I can read something else. Seems to work for me.
Sometimes things work out better than others, but you learned a lot of things that might prove useful in future careers and probably learned a lot about yourself in the process. It was worth doing.
Writing keeps me sane, but cute videos are always watching.
*endless hug*

Date: 2019-09-16 11:14 pm (UTC)I'm one to get caught up in one book so can't concentrate on anything else. Reading at night for that atmospheric feeling.:)
Yeah. I agree. I go back and look back on my notes and reread certain pages in books. I want to prioritize my time so I'm more selective with what I read. Finding ways to retain and use that information.
I have a friend who wants to be a professional writer. Her target audience is children.
I believe reading inspires people to do positive things. We need writers in order to do that.:)

Date: 2019-09-17 10:19 am (UTC)Reading is the best thing, it's always inspired me, and I've always read a lot. I was always ahead with any reading set at school. My parents instilled a love of books and reading into me, and it's the best thing they could have done. We learn from books, and we escape into them when needed.
As Groucho Marx apparently said, 'Outside a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside a dog it's too dark to read.'

Date: 2019-09-18 10:06 am (UTC)I'd rather read books than people. That's what I like best about them. Like a friend who you can always count on.:)
I knew the face but not the name. I had to look it up!
