Speechless
Oct. 23rd, 2013 02:03 pmI'm speechless and completely stunned - I just received a sympathy card from my vet with a lovely and quite lengthy handwritten note expressing sympathy over Misty's death and apologising for not being able to make him better.
How many vets would do that? George is one in a million.

Date: 2013-10-23 01:44 pm (UTC)With my old vet, when one of my guinea pigs died during surgery, I just got handed a bill to pay on the spot and my sweet little Ruffles handed to me in a plactic bag. They were never considerate about anything that wasn't a dog or a cat. I'm so glad I changed vets a few years ago.

Date: 2013-10-23 01:49 pm (UTC)George is incredidle - doesn't matter if it's a dog or a chicken, your pet receives the same level of care and consideration. George talks to and strokes his patients throughout treatment, he's very calming and gentle and never loses patience. So completely different from my previous vet. Misty and I were both very lucky.

Date: 2013-10-23 02:59 pm (UTC)Wow, that's a story I'd love to hear! I could do with cheering up, with my ribs hurting and the coughb refusing to go away.
He's really the best vet I've ever come across, treats his patients like they're children, talking soothingly to them and being as gentle as he can. My previous vet only treated dogs and cats that way, anything else got treated more like an object than an animal. I wouldn't want anyone else treating my furry friends now.

Date: 2013-10-23 03:29 pm (UTC)He did come in, but went straight for the kitchen knives and ran back out. That scared me a bit!
It was late in the season for deer to be born, but the guy had swerved to avoid a pregnant one in the roas (we lived in the middle of the woods, as in the nearest house was a mile so animals were abundant.). the mother was dead but should have been full term, so using only the knowledge of seeing me born caesarean my father and the neighbour birthed the calf sucessfully.
I clearly rememebr the neighbour carrying in a large bundle wrapped with a couple of belts and asking me if I could look after it. As I opened my mouth this litle deer head with the biggest eyes turned around to look at me! It was love at first sight
We knew a man who ran a farm park a couple of miles away with a herd of rare deer, so parents rang him for advice while I got a through cleaning from him (he stayed in the towels and belts so he didn't try to get up and run into glass or soemting). Eventually the guy came and took him.
Up until we left 4 years later I used to grab a lift on the back of the tractor up thee to see him. Usually they had a trailer people could feed from but the deer would panic if you got out. When he was about a year old I asked if I could go out to him, I was told he couldn't remember me.
..short story I got knocked to the ground and a very wet face!

Date: 2013-10-23 08:11 pm (UTC)it really was a magical childhood there, we tamed pheasants who would come into the house and watch tv with me, one could even use the toilet, and the electric cables for the house connected right above my bedroom window so i never closed my curtains. i could always watch the birds and squirrels out there playing

Date: 2013-10-23 11:49 pm (UTC)It's fantastic when you get someone that fantastic, who cares not only for your friend but yourself, as well.
I was so sorry to read about Misty, and I'm sorry I didn't answer before but I was in California helping my sister move to Indiana and didn't have much internet access. *hugs*

Date: 2013-10-24 11:32 am (UTC)I really am lucky that the nearest vet in my area also happens to be the best I've ever come across. So many vets put dogs and cats first while everything else seems to receive a lower level of care, but George treats all his patients the same, no matter what they are, stroking them and talking to them and doing the best he can.

Date: 2013-10-25 06:10 pm (UTC)I got the bill today and he's discounted quite a few of the treatment costs, which surprised me. It's still not cheap but it's about 40% less than it should have been, saving me well over £200.
Here's my lovely people:
