Christmas had been good this year, but Ryo had been sad his Aunt and Uncle couldn’t make it up to New York for the festivities. It was too bad his uncle had broken his ankle and the doctor had advised him against flying. Then again, with all the snow Uncle Rick would have had trouble getting around on crutches. It wouldn’t help him to fall and break something else.


Ryo had called them for a chat on Christmas Day, and he’d thanked them then for the gifts they’d sent, but he got out pen and paper anyway to write a Thank You note. He could include a recent photo of Bikky, who was growing like a weed, and tell his aunt and uncle a few other things he hadn’t wanted to talk about with Bikky right there; stuff about work.


He knew Aunt Elena and Uncle Rick had been disappointed at having to cancel the family Christmas they’d planned; living at opposite ends of the country meant they didn’t see each other as much as they’d like. Perhaps they could fly up for a visit next year. In the meantime, nothing would brighten their day more than receiving a letter.
