A/N: Triple drabble.

“It’s late, Bikky, you need to get to bed. If you don’t, Santa Claus won’t come,” Ryo told the ten-year-old boy firmly.

Bikky frowned up at his foster father. “I’m not a little kid, Ryo! Santa Claus isn’t real!”

“Oh.” Ryo’s face fell and he felt oddly disappointed. “I thought maybe you were still young enough to believe… I know I still did at your age.” He sank down on the sofa. “You know, when I found out the truth the following year, it took a lot of the magic out of Christmas.” He smiled wistfully.

“Yeah, I think I know what you mean. I found out when I was six; I woke up and was going to get a drink of water, but I caught dad wrapping my presents and putting them under the tree. He didn’t see me so I went back to bed and I didn’t tell him, but… I kinda wished I hadn’t seen.”

“That’s the trouble with growing up,” Ryo said quietly. “The older you get the less magic there seems to be in the world.”

Bikky climbed up on the sofa beside Ryo. “I don’t think that’s true; the magic’s still there if you know how to look for it, but it’s different. It’s not Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy, it’s in real things, the kinds of things that really matter, like when someone does something nice for you even if they don’t have to. Like you; nobody said you’d got to let me live with you, but you did it anyway, and it’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me.”

Ryo’s heart swelled and tears stung his eyes as he hugged the boy. Bikky was right; the magic hadn’t gone away. “Happy Christmas, Bikky.”

“Happy Christmas, Dad.”
