Double Drabble: Working Hours

Summary: Andy is learning the hard way that Tochwood agents are never off duty.

A/N: Double drabble.





“But it’s the middle of the night!” Andy groaned into the receiver. His phone’s strident ringing had dragged him out of a deep sleep and now he was expected to get up and go to work! At least when he’d been with the police he’d worked regular shifts.


“The Rift doesn’t run to a set schedule so neither do we,” Jack’s voice said in his ear. “Owen will be picking you up in ten minutes so you’d better be ready. If you’re not waiting outside he’ll leave without you.” Jack hung up and Andy flopped back onto his bed for a moment before rousing himself to pull on the clothes he’d shed not much more than two hours before. He shoved his feet into shoes, pulled on his jacket, grabbed keys and phone, and just made it to the kerb as the SUV pulled up in front of him. Mickey was in the front passenger seat so Andy had to get in the back.


“What is this, some sort of hazing ritual?” he grumbled, fastening his seatbelt. “See how long the newbies can go without sleep before they collapse from exhaustion?”


Owen snorted. “This is Torchwood. Sleep is for wimps.”

Just kidding. Sort of. It's not like I'm an expert in creating a sci-fi series. I just know what most people would deem descent storytelling. I hope I don't sound too direct.

I think most real fans can tell good storytelling from bad. Don't get me wrong, I loved Torchwood, but in terms of storytelling, it wasn't great. Plot holes, underused (and overused) characters, loose ends left hanging, lack of character development... The basic idea had so much potential and yet it was all squandered for the sake of the Gwen Cooper Soap Opera. Torchwood could have been a brilliant, long-running SF show, it's just that wasn't the show RTD wanted to make so the fans and most of the characters lost out.

Yeah, we just have to accept the moment's pass and enjoy the fanfic.

I wouldn't want a reboot since most of the main characters died. How about a reset?*jokes*

LOL! I don't know, I think if they went back and said CoE and MD never happened, maybe that Exit Wounds was a bad dream, they could pick up where they left off. But if Torchwood ever came back it would have to be Jack and Ianto, otherwise I wouldn't watch. No Ianto, no Torchwood.

Reboots are kind of tricky. Putting a reset button on certain events.*unsure*

The Charmed reboot isn't really what it claims to be. It all comes down to who produces it.

Torchwood doesn't even have to have the original characters, just the same premise. Maybe it's only a good idea in theory.

They could bring Torchwood back and say this is the Torchwood in an alternate universe where CoE and Miracle Day never happened, or went differently. As long as Jack and Ianto were back, and together, I'd watch. There are plenty of ways Torchwood could come back, just look at all the fix-its that have been written. If we can do it, the BBC could too, if they wanted to.

I haven't heard about a Charmed 'reboot'. What's that all about? I used to enjoy Charmed.

The Charmed reboot is a rehash of the original. Sure they upgraded some things aka texting and one of the sister's is gay so it's slightly different. I didn't really care for the acting though.

I'm basically saying what some people have already said in reviews online or on youtube which by the way are quite amusing or insightful. Or both.:)

The Buffy reboot is going to have a black slayer. Not sure what that's supposed to represent. Diversity perhaps?

The franchise started off as reversing the scared blonde girl in horror films getting killed off. Instead making Buffy the one and only powerful slayer.

The Charmed reboot doesn't sound like something I'd like, I generally prefer the originals.

Not really happy about the idea of the Buffy reboot either, sounds like it might kind of be missing the whole point of the original. Not that I have anything against a black Slayer, but can't it sort of be Slayer: The Next Generation or something? I don't want a new Buffy, a new Willow, a new Xander, Giles, and Angel. It just wouldn't feel right.

The original cast of Charmed were approached but nothing came of it. A next generation should have been made instead.

Enough of the reboots. Just rewatch the originals and future generations can enjoy them too!

Yes, why not a next generation, because that would be so much better if they have to make a new series. The original is always best though.
