Summary: Tommy doesn’t feel brave.

A/N: Song title = drabble title. It’s just easier that way.

Tommy was scared.

He didn’t want to go back to 1918, knew he’d be sent back to the front and he couldn’t do that again.

Tosh said they were counting on him, that only he could save the world and all of time, save everyone.

She called him her brave, handsome hero, but he didn’t feel brave, didn’t want to be a hero. He just wanted to stay here, in the future, with her. Why did it have to be him?

But if it wasn’t him, he wouldn’t be here now, would never have met the beautiful Toshiko.

“Take me.”

Tommy's situation has always saddened me. So many young men were executed for cowardice when they were suffering from psychological trauma. It's unlikely that Tommy would have escaped that fate, even though he had the courage to save the world.

It is. Tommy was a hero who saved all of time, yet in all probability he would have been executed as a coward when he returned to 1918, as so many young men were simply because they had been traumatized by their experiences. It's a wonder than anyone comes out of war sane.
