badly_knitted
Characters: Ryo, Dee.
Rating: G
Setting: After Vol. 7.
Summary: Dee’s never been camping before so he’s bound to make a few little mistakes.
Written Using: The dw100 prompt ‘Bonfire / Gunpowder’.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: This one’s a double drabble.
“Dee, what’re you doing?” Ryo asked, horrified at the sight before him.
“Gettin’ a good blaze goin’,” Dee replied, reaching to throw more wood on their campfire.
“It’s a campfire, not a bonfire!” Ryo hastened to stop Dee adding more fuel to the flames; the fire was already three times bigger than they needed, and blazing far too hot to cook over. “You don’t put everything on at once; the wood we gathered has to last until morning. Besides, if you’re not careful you’ll set the whole forest on fire!” Ryo carefully used the water he’d just fetched from a nearby spring to douse the edges of the fire and keep it from spreading. “We’ll have to wait until it dies down now before we can cook dinner, otherwise all we’ll end up with is cinders.”
Dee looked sheepish. “Sorry, I didn’t know; I’ve never been camping before. I just wanted to keep the snakes and wolves and bears away.”
Ryo sighed. “There aren’t any wolves or bears around here, and the heat is more likely to attract snakes. They’re cold-blooded.”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“I thought you had some common sense.”
Dee had a lot to learn.
