Title: Young Rascal
Fandom: FAKE
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Mother, Jess, Dee.
Rating: G
Challenge: 91: Old Enough To Know Better at
drabble_weekly.
Spoilers/Setting: Before the manga, with a nod to Vol. 2, Act 6.
Summary: Dee is proving quite a handful for Mother.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
Dee wasn’t the first child Mother had raised, she’d taken in dozens over the years, sometimes for a few weeks and sometimes for years, but never had she been responsible for anyone who got themselves into more scrapes than Dee. It had been fine when he’d been a baby, sleeping all the time; even when he’d started crawling then walking, she’d managed to keep him out of any real danger, but the older he got the more independent he became, giving her a fright at least once a week.
Jess was no help; he just laughed when she regaled him with Dee’s latest escapades. “Boys will be boys,” he told her. “Nothing’s ever going to hold him back from doing what he wants to do.”
“That’s what I’m afraid of,” Mother admitted.
Then Dee fell out of his bedroom window on the second floor, breaking his arm.
“You’re five-years-old, Dee, not a baby anymore! You should know better than to lean out of windows!” she scolded as she brought him home from the hospital.
“I wasn’t leaning out; I was trying to climb out!”
Mother put her head in her hands. This young rascal would be the death of her!
