Characters: Drake, Ted, Marty, JJ, OFC.
Rating: G
Challenge: 86: Better Luck Next Time at
drabble_weekly.
Spoilers/Setting: After the manga, but before Like Like Love.
Summary: Getting dumped sucks, but at least Drake has one friend he can count on.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Double drabble.
Getting dumped was such a regular occurrence for Drake that he sometimes wondered why he still let it bother him so much. Unfortunately, in this case being used to something didn’t make it any easier to endure, especially since some of his colleagues treated his bad luck with women as a kind of spectator sport, laughing at his gloomy, woebegone expression.
“How long did this one last?” Ted asked with a grin, like he didn’t already know the answer.
Three weeks ago Drake had been on cloud nine because Jessica, a waitress in his local diner, had agreed to go out with him. She was cute, blonde, and bubbly, and now she’d dumped him in favor of getting back with her ex.
“You must hold the world record for getting dumped,” Marty added, slapping Drake on the back. “Congratulations, maybe you should give Guinness a call.”
“Pay no attention to them,” JJ said as Drake slumped down across from him. “There’s plenty more fish in the sea; you just have to keep trying. You’ll have better luck next time.”
JJ’s words weren’t original, but Drake appreciated the sentiment behind them. At least he had one friend he could count on.
